Fixed Term Contract 3 months - Theatre Logistics Support - Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham

Theatres at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital plan to undertake more than 9000 operations every year throughout the fourteen operating theatres and two recovery areas. This post is required to support & manage the consumables department within the hospital. The role outlined below will be to take delivery of orders and make sure that the Theatres are stocked appropriately to allow us to perform everyday procedures. We have the aim of zero ‘stock-outs’ managing the stock in a very responsive manner in the most cost-effective way.
Key Accountabilities
Distribute all received stock, goods and equipment including NHS Supply Chain orders to the appropriate areas within Theatres, Recovery, Logistics and surrounding Departments. This will include ambient bone product.
Goods receipting of soft and consumable items in accordance with stock management systems.
Support with the completion of consumable stock takes in the storeroom and other associated store areas and advising of any stock shortages or stock outs.
General housekeeping and tidying of all areas assigned to the role including storeroom, overflow rooms, Recovery Storeroom.
Emptying of rubbish within storage cages moving them to the designated disposal areas whilst returning all empty cages back to the external stores.
Liaise and communicate with the external stores around the delivery and receiving of orders in a timely manner to avoid disruption to the department.
Communicate with couriers and companies around the delivery and returns of items.
Completing other associated Job duties reasonable and applicable to the banding and job role as the above list is not exhaustive.
Skills, experience and qualifications
Organisation and attention to detail – maintaining accurate records & tracking inventory is crucial.
Inventory Management - Experience in managing inventory levels, conducting regular stock checks, and placing orders to ensure that supplies are always available when needed.
Communication skills - Good communication skills are necessary to interact with hospital staff, vendors, and suppliers to ensure smooth operations and timely delivery of supplies.
Problem solving ability - The ability to identify and resolve issues related to stock discrepancies, supply shortages, or any other challenges that may arise in the storekeeping process.
Basic computer skills - Proficiency in using inventory management software or other relevant computer systems to record and track inventory is required.
Physical stamina – Storekeeping may involve lifting and moving heavy boxes or supplies, so physical fitness and stamina are important.
Knowledge of medical supplies - Familiarity with medical supplies, equipment, and consumables commonly used in a hospital setting is essential. This includes understanding storage requirements and expiration dates.
Contacts & Relationships
This role requires a large amount of positive and effective interaction with all levels of customers, suppliers, and management teams. The Theatre Logistics Support is a Genmed representative on site and as such interaction with the customer and the supplier staff is required to be of the highest professional level. You will be expected to manage the expectations of the Trust, therefore exceptional levels of customer service are required and as such are key to this position.
Work Environment
The position is based in the consumables room or ‘stores’ room, close to the operating theatres within the hospital. As a result of this it is likely that the incumbent will be required to wear surgical scrubs on occasion. There is some manual handling involved with this position however, the candidate will not need to hold any special licenses in relation to the same. It is a very busy environment to work in with multiple queries and conflicting priorities.
