Student Mentor – Carpentry / Multi Trade Coach
Location: Gosport (with occasional travel to Fort Widley based on business needs)
Hours: Full-time | Monday–Friday | 8:30am–4:30pm, part-time considered
Salary: £27,300–£28,100 per annum
Reporting to: Project Manager

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong trade background who wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people. You will combine practical, hands-on vocational learning with mentoring support, helping students who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education, including SEND, SEMH, trauma, exclusion, or disengagement from learning.
We welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in carpentry, construction, mechanics, D&T teaching, or other relevant trades.
The Role
You will create engaging and practical learning experiences that help young people build confidence, develop employability skills, and achieve positive outcomes in a safe and supportive environment.
Key responsibilities include:
Vocational Delivery
- Deliver engaging carpentry and practical trade-based sessions
- Teach the safe use of tools, materials, and equipment
- Create hands-on projects that build skills, teamwork, and confidence
- Adapt learning activities to suit different abilities and learning needs
- Maintain a safe, organised workshop environment and ensure health and safety standards are met
Mentoring and Student Support
- Build positive and consistent relationships with young people
- Support emotional wellbeing, engagement, and behavioural development
- Encourage and motivate students to achieve personal goals
- Use restorative and trauma-informed approaches to support behaviour
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced within carpentry, woodworking, construction, mechanics, or a related trade
- Passionate about supporting young people
- onfident building positive relationships with students who may be disengaged from education
- A strong communicator with a patient and resilient approach
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting young people's wellbeing
- Must have 3x months or more experience of working in an education environment
