A welcoming and high-achieving secondary school in Gloucester is seeking an enthusiastic English Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their team for the full academic year from September 2026. About the Role
As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with the English department to support students both inside and outside the classroom. You'll help pupils develop their literacy skills, provide targeted intervention sessions, support GCSE and Key Stage 3 learners, and contribute to creating an engaging learning environment.
You'll also gain invaluable experience working alongside experienced teachers, making this the ideal stepping stone towards teacher training.
Key Responsibilities
- Support English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions to improve literacy and reading comprehension
- Assist students with classwork, coursework, and exam preparation
- Encourage confidence in reading, writing, and communication
- Help prepare classroom resources and learning materials
- Support pupils with varying learning needs to ensure they reach their potential
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
What We're Looking For
- A recent English graduate (or related Humanities degree)
- Previous experience working with young people in a school, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or similar setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A positive, proactive, and adaptable approach
- A genuine passion for education and supporting student progress
- An interest in pursuing a career in teaching or education is highly desirable
