We are a small, independent, family owned opticians in beautiful Topsham, where we take pride in not only the service that we provide to the community, but also in the way we look after our ‘work family’. We are looking for a motivated, experienced Optical Assistant with excellent customer service and fantastic inter-personal skills to join our very small team at Peter Tosh Opticians on a part time basis.
The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year optical experience, and be able to dispense all lens types including multifocal. They will need basic computer skills, and English and Maths to Grade C at GCSE or equivalent. They will have the confidence and trust to make their own decisions regarding patient care as there will be times when they will be working on their own in the practice.
Day to day the role will fulfil all aspects of dispensing requirements for the practice, and also ordering and checking of spectacles. Frame styling and selection is a significant part of our patient journey, so confidence in this area is important, along with a desire to find the best solution for every patient, regardless of budget. You would also be expected to complete reception duties including booking appointments, dealing with queries and product sales.
You will be in practice at times by yourself, so confidence to make you own decisions is essential, but you will also be working alongside 2 employed DO's in a supporting role.
The exact hours of this role are to be discussed, and can be flexible for the right candidate. . It will include alternate Saturdays, but no Sundays, late evenings or Bank Holidays. Working hours are 09:00 to 17:00 weekdays, closing for lunch from 13:00-14:00, and Saturdays 09:00 – 16:20 (with a 20 minute break).
Salary is negotiable depending on experience, and holiday is 28 days per year (pro-rata) including bank holidays. Our working day is 7 hours for full time employees.
