We're looking for an experienced MEP Design Operations Manager to join a growing Building Services consultancy delivering innovative Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) design solutions across the commercial, residential, education, retail, hospitality, logistics and leisure sectors.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior MEP professional to step into a strategic leadership role where you'll oversee operations, drive business performance and lead multidisciplinary engineering teams while working on a varied portfolio of high-profile projects.
The Role
As the MEP Design Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for the successful operational delivery of all engineering projects, ensuring quality, profitability and client satisfaction while supporting the continued growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the MEP design team
- Manage building services projects from concept to completion
- Oversee Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) design delivery
- Review technical designs and ensure compliance with UK regulations and CIBSE guidance
- Allocate resources and manage engineering workloads
- Monitor project programmes, budgets and profitability
- Conduct technical design reviews and quality assurance checks
- Mentor and support engineering teams
- Lead recruitment, onboarding and staff development
- Build strong client and stakeholder relationships
- Attend client meetings, technical workshops and project reviews
- Drive operational improvements and business growth initiatives
- Support BIM implementation and digital engineering processes
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Strong background in MEP Building Services Design (Mechanical bias preferred)
- Previous operational management experience within an engineering consultancy
- Excellent knowledge of Mechanical Building Services Design, UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and Building Safety requirements
- Experience delivering refurbishment and new-build projects
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing project fees, margins, WIP and resource planning
- Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and engineering teams simultaneously
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards Chartership
- Experience across commercial, education, hospitality, residential or retail sectors
- BIM and digital engineering experience
- Experience implementing operational improvements and business growth strategies
