JOB DESCRIPTION CLERICAL OFFICER
RESPONISBLE TO: RECEPTION MANAGER
REPORTS TO: PRACTICE MANAGER
The successful applicant must have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with medical and nursing personnel, other clerical staff and the general public.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reception of patients into the Practice; Navigating and dealing with all personal and telephone enquiries from patients wishing to see a doctor or member of the primary care or multidisciplinary team.
2. Operating and maintaining a computer appointment system. Directing patients to Doctors on arrival and ensuring a steady flow.
3. Taking details of prescriptions, processing electronic prescription requests. Handing out signed prescriptions to patients and chemist representatives and completing appropriate forms.
4. Processing data on multiple software packages- electronic filing of medical records, hospital letters, reports, etc. Data entry to clinical system. Manual filing as required.
5. Typing of all correspondence, letters, reports, etc as required and operating word processor/computer.
6. Telephone duties: dealing with emergency calls, requests for home visits, arranging of interpreters as required.
7. Processing mail – incoming and outgoing.
8. Dealing with all enquiries either by telephone or in person in a courteous accurate and efficient manner to all patients, members of the public or members of the multidisciplinary team.
9. Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the multidisciplinary team, primary care and other associated health care agencies.
10. Follow all practice procedures and adhere to practice policy. Attend all training sessions arranged by the practice. Ensure that at all times that the practices commitment to equal service to all regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, race & disability is upheld in dealing with patients, members of the public and other professionals.
11. Become fully conversant with all Fire & Health and Safety procedures and to follow them.
12. Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Practice Manager/Reception Manager.
11. Maintenance of confidentiality in all matters relating to patients and practice functions.

Pay: £26,543.97 per year
