We are looking for a skilled and proactive Maintenance Person to support the upkeep, safety, and development of our equestrian facilities. This role is essential in ensuring the yard, buildings, and equipment are well maintained and safe for horses, staff, clients, and students.
Harness Change works closely with vulnerable children and adults, so this role requires a professional, approachable manner and a willingness to engage positively and safely with clients on site.
You will work closely with the yard team to prioritise and complete maintenance tasks, supporting both day-to-day operations and ongoing improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities:
General Maintenance & Repairs:
- Carry out repairs and maintenance across the yard, including stables, fencing, gates, arenas, and buildings
- Complete basic electrical repairs and wiring (within competency)
- Undertake basic plumbing tasks, including repairing and installing taps, water troughs, and pipework
- Maintain yard infrastructure such as field shelters, fencing, and drainage systems
Machinery & Equipment:
- Operate machinery such as tractors, diggers, and other agricultural equipment
- Maintain and service tools and machinery including strimmers and hand tools
- Carry out routine checks and basic repairs to ensure equipment is safe and functional
Project Work & Improvements:
- Support with yard improvement projects such as building, landscaping, and groundworks
- Assist in arena maintenance (levelling, harrowing, surface care)
- Carry out painting, carpentry, and general DIY tasks
Health & Safety:
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with health and safety regulations
- Work at height where required (holding relevant certification or willingness to complete training)
- Identify hazards and report or resolve issues promptly
Team Coordination:
- Liaise with the yard team and management to prioritise maintenance tasks
- Respond efficiently to urgent repair needs to minimise disruption to operations
- Support the wider team during busy periods when required
Client Interaction & Safeguarding:
- Maintain a professional and respectful approach when working around clients, students, and visitors
- Be aware of safeguarding responsibilities and contribute to a safe environment for vulnerable individuals
- Engage appropriately with students where required, supporting a positive and inclusive atmosphere
Person Specification:
- Experience in maintenance, construction, or agricultural work
- Confident operating machinery such as tractors and diggers
- Practical skills across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repairs
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work independently
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Professional, approachable, and reliable
- Comfortable working around vulnerable children and adults
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather
- Certification for working at height (or willingness to gain)
- Full UK driving licence (preferred)
Desirable Skills:
- Welding or fabrication skills
- Knowledge of equestrian environments and yard operations
- Experience with groundworks, drainage, or landscaping
- Understanding of health & safety compliance
