Position: Fitness Instructor
Salary: £24,454.04, £24,935.04 & £25,223.64 plus a percentage of personal
training revenue.
Scale: SC4 -SC6
Pension: Pension scheme available.
Hours: 37 hours per week including paid lunch
Holidays: 32 working days. (Inclusive of bank and public holidays).

Purpose of Post: To maintain effective operation of the club within the guidelines of St Mary’s School Services’ Health and Safety legislation.
We are seeking to employ a Fitness Instructor who will be the point of contact for members and visitors to the Sports Club’s state of the art Fitness Suite. The Fitness Instructor will be expected to provide a warm, welcoming service, promoting a culture and ethos of health and well-being. He/she will be expected to create a dynamic and engaging atmosphere and strive to improve members’ health and well-being through specific goal-setting strategies.

Generic Responsibilities:
- To supervise the use of the Fitness Suite, ensuring that all members and pupils comply with present rules and policies.
- To assist and co-ordinate the maintenance and cleanliness of the Fitness Suite in conjunction with the Duty Manager (Fitness) and Fitness Instructors.
- To be familiar with the XN Leisure membership and booking software within the facility, including all leisure bookings.
- To actively promote and engage members with the St Mary’s Mywellness App which can be found in the app store.
- Be familiar with all front office procedures and assist with reception when necessary.
- Assist with membership sales, including facility tours, outreach and marketing.
- Assist with Sports Club events (for example, Open Weekends and Activity Camps).
- To ensure visits to the club by members and pupils are enjoyable and assist with any enquiries or problems.
- Assist with lifeguarding when required (if there is assistance on hand to support the supervision of the Fitness Suite) and ensure NPLQ qualification is maintained.
- Act in accordance with existing checklists, cleaning duties and health and safety procedures relevant to your area of responsibility.
- To provide first aid treatment when necessary, ensuring accident reports are completed where necessary.
- To be familiar with all emergency procedures, and ensure that members and pupils are never exposed to unnecessary risks.
- To wear correct uniform and use PPE (personal protective equipment) where required.
- Assist with lifeguarding when required (if there is assistance on hand to support the supervision of the Fitness Suite) and ensure NPLQ qualification is maintained.
- To perform any other duties that may be considered necessary by the Club Manager or Line Manager(s).
Specific Responsibilities:
- To carry out effective inductions, blast sessions and 6-week reviews with customers.
- Attend fitness team meetings.
- Oversee member appointments and follow the Real Results Induction process and tracker.
- Assist with and follow the relevant fitness suite procedures i.e. Fitness Facilities NOP, Retention, Fitness Assessments and Members Journey.
- Assist with and follow the relevant fitness suite risk assessments in conjunction with the Duty Manager of Health & Safety and Operations.
- Assist with the management of the entertainment systems within the Fitness Suite.
- Adhere to General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR 2018). Manage and organise the secure filing of all membership data including PAR-Q and Health Commitment Statements (HCS).
- Assist with the Sports Club’s retention procedures, including TRP Interact (Engage CEM), ensuring interaction targets are achieved, in particular with high risk category members.
- Ensure personal qualifications are maintained and up to date, including CPD.
- Develop and lead the term time Sports Club led P.E sessions for St Mary’s School.
- Conduct a daily gym floor activity programme for Sports Club members.
- Organise and lead weekly group fitness classes.
- Assist with events that engage current and prospective members of the Sports Club.
- Assist in the running of the St Mary’s Running & Triathlon Club.
- Organise monthly gym challenges.
- Conduct personal training sessions and contribute to revenue targets as outlined by your Line Manager(s).
- Organise educational seminars that would benefit all Sports Club members.

Person Specification:
Essential Level 2 Fitness Instructor Qualification or equivalent
Desirable Nationally recognised first aid qualification (Can be provided)
Desirable National Pool Lifeguarding Qualification (Can be provided)
Desirable Level 3 Personal Training Qualification or equivalent (Can be provided)
Desirable Good typing and administrative skills
Desirable Recognised fitness teaching qualification
Desirable Recognised fitness diploma or equivalent
Desirable Experience and knowledge in coaching specific populations
Personality & Attitude:
- A flexible approach is required when working a three week shift pattern that includes some antisocial hours and one weekend out of three.
- Well-presented and highly personable.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for the health and fitness industry.
- Approachable, friendly, reliable and able to adapt to a range of user groups.
