About the role
The St Magnus Community is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support the catering team across the main kitchen and ward kitchen areas.
This role provides safe, efficient and effective kitchen and ward-based catering support, ensuring that kitchen areas, ward kitchens, food storage areas, equipment and stock are kept clean, safe and hygienic in line with required standards.
You will work under the direction of the Head Kitchen Assistant, supporting the Head Chef and wider catering team with cleaning, food service support, stock replenishment, food transfer and spot fridge temperature checks.
Main duties
The role will include:
· Cleaning the main kitchen, ward kitchens, food preparation areas, equipment and utensils.
· Washing dishes, pots, pans, utensils and equipment.
· Supporting food preparation, food service, food transfer and stock movement as directed.
· Replenishing ward kitchen stock, including drinks, snacks, dry goods and agreed supplies
· Carrying out spot fridge temperature checks in ward kitchens and reporting any concerns.
· Following food hygiene, allergen, temperature control, labelling, storage and stock rotation procedures.
· Using kitchen equipment safely and reporting faults or unsafe equipment.
· Using and storing cleaning chemicals safely in line with COSHH requirements.
· Following infection prevention and control requirements.
· Handling and storing waste safely in line with local procedures.
· Reporting spillages, pest concerns, leaks, blocked sinks, equipment faults or other environmental risks.
· Working safely and professionally around vulnerable patients and residents, maintaining dignity, privacy, confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Previous kitchen, catering, cleaning or care-sector experience would be helpful, but training can be provided for the right candidate.
