We are currently recruiting for an experienced and suitably qualified Building Surveyor – Planning to join a busy Property Services team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a RICS Chartered Surveyor with strong building surveying experience to work across a diverse property portfolio, supporting building compliance, safety and capital project delivery.
The Role
The successful candidate will work closely with partner organisations and internal teams to ensure buildings remain safe, compliant and appropriately managed, while also supporting the delivery of capital projects.
The property portfolio is varied and includes Grade I and Grade II listed buildings, Scheduled Ancient Monuments, commercial and industrial sites, so experience across a diverse estate would be highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
Provide professional building surveying advice across a varied property portfolio.
Support building compliance and safety requirements.
Work alongside project management teams to deliver capital projects.
Inspect and assess buildings and identify technical requirements.
Provide advice relating to planning, conservation and regulatory matters.
Work with listed buildings, heritage properties and Scheduled Ancient Monuments.
Support commercial and industrial property projects.
Act as Contract Administrator on a range of projects.
Act as Principal Designer where required.
Manage multiple workstreams and competing priorities.
Work collaboratively with contractors, consultants and internal teams.
Ensure projects and property-related activities comply with relevant legislation and regulations.
Contribute to maintaining a safe, compliant and well-managed property portfolio.
About You
You will need:
RICS Chartered Surveyor qualification – essential.
Demonstrable experience working within a building/property surveying environment.
Strong knowledge of current legislation and regulatory requirements.
Knowledge of conservation and planning policy.
Experience acting as a Contract Administrator.
Experience acting as Principal Designer on varied project work.
Excellent technical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
Full driving licence.
Availability to work on site in Hereford 2–3 days per week.
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous:
Experience acting as a Nominated Person for Asbestos Management.
Experience acting as a Nominated Person for Fire Management.
Experience working with listed and heritage buildings.
Experience with Scheduled Ancient Monuments.
Commercial and industrial property experience.
Previous public-sector or local authority property experience.
