Clinical Development Lead: Speech and Language Therapist
Location: Leeds
Salary is £39,959 (based on full time)
Hours: Full-time or part-time considered Contract: Permanent
Reports to: Clinical Service Manager / Clinical Service Coordinator
Are you a clinically confident Speech and Language Therapist ready to take the next step into leadership?
Chatterbug is looking for a reflective, motivated and values-led SLT to join our paediatric team as a Clinical Development Lead.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinician who enjoys supporting others, embedding good practice and helping teams work consistently and confidently. You do not need to be a fully formed senior manager, but you will need to be clinically competent, open to feedback, organised, emotionally mature, and willing to learn.
The role sits within our existing Lead team, alongside our other Leads. You will work under the direction of the Clinical Service Manager and Clinical Service Coordinator, supporting SLTs, Trainee SLTs and CALS to embed Chatterbug’s clinical processes, supervision standards, documentation expectations and service delivery model.
You will also hold a clinical caseload, agreed in line with service need, so you can continue to model high-quality, evidence-based practice and remain closely connected to the realities of clinical delivery.
About the role
As Clinical Development Lead, you will support the development, confidence and consistency of our clinical workforce. You will provide supervision, mentoring, coaching and practical support to SLTs and CALS, helping them to apply Chatterbug’s systems and standards in their day-to-day work.
You will work collaboratively with the wider Lead team to strengthen clinical quality, improve consistency, identify development needs and contribute to a positive culture of learning, accountability and continuous improvement.
This role would suit someone who is clinically strong, reflective and ready to grow into a broader leadership role within a supportive structure.
Key responsibilities
You will:
- Hold a clinical caseload, providing assessment, advice and intervention for children and young people with a range of speech, language and communication needs.
- Model high-quality, evidence-based, outcomes-focused clinical practice.
- Provide supervision, mentoring and coaching to SLTs and CALS as allocated within the service structure.
- Support staff to embed Chatterbug’s clinical pathways, documentation standards, templates, intervention models and outcome measures.
- Help staff develop confidence, clinical reasoning, reflective practice and consistency.
- Identify staff development needs through supervision, observation, record reviews, feedback and discussion.
- Escalate concerns around clinical practice, documentation, professional behaviour, confidence or service delivery to the Clinical Service Manager and Clinical Service Coordinator.
- Contribute to appraisals, professional development reviews and staff development conversations where required.
- Support induction and onboarding of new clinical staff.
- Contribute to training, coaching sessions, resources, guidance documents and clinical tools.
- Support quality assurance activity, including clinical record reviews, supervision themes, outcome monitoring and practice audits.
- Work alongside other Leads to promote consistency, shared learning and high standards across the team.
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- A qualified Speech and Language Therapist registered with HCPC.
- Clinically competent and confident working with children and young people with SLCN.
- Experienced in paediatric speech and language therapy across clinic, education and/or community settings.
- Reflective, coachable and open to feedback.
- Able to follow agreed systems and processes consistently.
- Confident supporting, mentoring, coaching or supervising others.
- A clear and professional communicator, both verbally and in writing.
- Organised, reliable and able to follow through on agreed actions.
- Able to build positive relationships while maintaining professional expectations.
- Curious and willing to bring ideas, while also working within Chatterbug’s agreed model and direction.
- Able to work collaboratively within an existing leadership structure.
Desirable experience
It would be helpful if you have experience of:
- Providing formal supervision.
- Supporting junior staff, assistants, students or CALS.
- Delivering training or coaching sessions.
- Supporting induction or onboarding.
- Contributing to audits, quality assurance or service improvement projects.
- Using clinical data, outcome measures or KPIs to inform practice improvement.
- Working as part of a lead-level or leadership team.
