Machinist/Fitter (Cheddar)

The role
Due to a growing demand for our machining capability, we have a requirement for a machinist fitter, the job role will require a time served engineer with proven record of manual/conventional turning milling and general machining together with proven mechanical fitting skills, additional experience of CNC and XYZ machines would be an advantage, but not essential, training will be given. The ability to use CAD/Solidworks package would be an advantage.
The role will also require a degree of welding and general engineering, the company uses the latest technology in industry, training will be provided.
Main responsibilities and duties
· Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output.
· Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job.
· Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping.
· Read and interpret CAD drawings in order to select correct machinery.
· Select appropriate machines (e.g. lathes) and position or load material for a job
· Determine and program size of batches, speed of machine etc.
· Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues.
· Check output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects.
· Keep records of approved and defective units or final products
· Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages.
· Operation of Lathes and pillar drill.
· CNC Operation
· Ability to read blueprints and measuring devices such as callipers, micrometres and vernier.
· Understanding and experience with Ferrous, Non-Ferrous, plastics and copper.
· Experience repairing journals and shafts
· Maintains safe operation of equipment by adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
· Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
· Can work on own initiative or as a team member.
· Batch or single item work
Be available for call out and overtime.
Perform any other duties within your capabilities as directed by the Workshop Manager.

About you:
· Proven experience as machinist.
· On Call/Rota availability.
· Experience working with machine tools or mechanical assembly.
· Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines.
· Experience with welding and balancing would be beneficial.
· Ability to use precision tools (e.g. callipers) to take accurate measurements
· Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
· Good at math with analytical abilities.
· Computer skills (MS Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
· Excellent communication and time management skills.
· Experience working with machine tools or mechanical assembly.
· Knowledge of speeds and feeds.
· Knowledge of safety protocols and PPE.
· Attention to detail with good communications skills.
