Residential Childcare Worker (RCW)
Saje Care Group Ltd
Location: Shifnal, Shropshire
Salary: £30,000 - £32,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Summer House is a small, therapeutic children’s home where we provide a nurturing, family-style environment for young people who may have experienced trauma, disrupted attachments and difficult experiences earlier in life.
Our approach combines trauma-informed and attachment-based care, with relationships at the centre of everything we do.
We're looking for warm, resilient and dependable Residential Childcare Workers who want to make a genuine difference to young people's lives.
You don't need to have all the answers. You do need patience, consistency, good judgement and the ability to remain calm when a young person is having a difficult day.
What you'll be doing
You'll become an important and trusted adult in the everyday lives of the young people living at Summer House.
Your role will include:
- Building safe, consistent and positive relationships with young people.
- Supporting young people with their daily routines, education, appointments and activities.
- Helping young people develop independence skills including cooking, budgeting, shopping, laundry and looking after their home.
- Supporting emotional regulation using trauma-informed, attachment-based and PACE-informed approaches.
- Supporting young people through difficult or emotionally challenging situations in a calm and non-judgemental way.
- Maintaining accurate daily records, incident reports and handovers.
Our therapeutic approach
We recognise that behaviour is often a form of communication. Our practice is built around attachment-based and trauma-informed principles and the PACE approach – Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy.
Summer House also works alongside a private therapeutic service, providing specialist input, consultation and reflective practice to help our team understand the young people we care for.
What we're looking for
We're interested in people who are:
- Caring, patient and emotionally resilient.
- Reliable and able to provide consistency.
- Able to remain calm when situations become challenging.
- Comfortable working as part of a close-knit team.
- Able to communicate professionally and maintain good written records.
- Willing to work shifts including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins.
- Committed to safeguarding children and young people.
- Willing to learn and develop professionally.
A full UK driving licence is desirable.
What we'll give you
- Competitive salary
- Fully funded training and development.
- Support towards relevant residential childcare qualifications.
- Enhanced DBS funded by the company.
- Specialist trauma and attachment training.
- Meals while on shift.
- A supportive management team.
- Genuine opportunities to progress to Senior, Deputy Manager and management positions as Saje Care Group develops.
Most importantly, you'll be joining a small home where relationships matter and where you can see the difference your work makes.
