Job Title: Mechanic / Driver – Car Transport Specialist
Location: Upper Heyford
About Us
We are a small, family-run car transport business with a reputation for reliability and care. We handle everything from classic car collections to dealer deliveries. As a close-knit team, we look after our staff and take pride in the quality of our work.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for a skilled and reliable Mechanic / Driver to join us. This is a dual-role position: you will spend part of your week driving and collecting/delivering vehicles, and part of your week maintaining our fleet and trailers in our workshop.
The Role
- Driving: Operate our 3.5t recovery truck or 4x4 with trailer to collect and deliver vehicles across the UK.
- Mechanical Work: Carry out routine maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on our fleet of trucks, trailers, and customer vehicles. This includes servicing, brake work, electrical fault finding, and welding/fabrication as required.
- Trailer Maintenance: Specifically maintain and service our Brian James T6 trailers, including brakes, lighting, winches, and coupling systems.
- Customer Service: Represent the company professionally when dealing with clients, recovery operators, and auction houses.
- Compliance: Ensure all vehicles and trailers are roadworthy and comply with DVSA regulations. Complete daily walk-around checks and maintain accurate records.
Who We Are Looking For
- Driving: A full UK driving licence with C1 entitlement (or willingness to obtain) is essential. Experience driving a 3.5t recovery truck or similar flatbed vehicle is preferred.
- Trailer Experience: Proven experience towing is highly desirable.
- Mechanical Skills: You must be a competent mechanic with at least 2 years of experience. A formal qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance) is advantageous but not essential – we value practical ability.
- Welding/Fabrication: Basic welding skills (MIG or ARC) would be a strong advantage for trailer repairs.
- Personal Qualities: Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently. A positive attitude and a willingness to muck in as part of a small team are essential.
What We Offer
- A varied and interesting role – no two days are the same.
- A supportive, family-run environment where your opinion matters.
- Weekend Work: Occasional Saturday work is required, with time off in lieu.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £14.00-£16.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Company pension
- On-site parking
