Builder / Carpenter (Minimum 7 Years' Experience)
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Builder / Carpenter with a minimum of 7 years' hands-on experience to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be capable of working independently to a high standard across a range of residential and commercial projects, including fire door installations, first and second fix carpentry, general building works, and property maintenance.
The role requires a proactive individual who takes pride in producing quality workmanship, can communicate effectively with clients, and maintains a safe, clean, and organised working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and adjust certified fire doors in accordance with current fire safety regulations and manufacturer specifications.
- Carry out first and second fix carpentry, including:
- Hanging internal and external doors
- Skirting boards and architraves
- Stud partitions
- Timber framing
- Flooring
- Stair components
- Kitchens and bespoke joinery
- Complete high-quality finishing carpentry to a professional standard.
- Undertake general building works including brickwork repairs, blockwork, plasterboarding, fencing, groundwork, concrete works, and minor roofing repairs.
- Assist with landscaping and external construction projects where required.
- Carry out demolition, site preparation, and labouring duties as necessary.
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and work schedules.
- Ensure all work complies with current Building Regulations and health and safety requirements.
- Maintain, tools, and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition.
- Liaise professionally with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and colleagues.
- Accurately record completed work and report any issues or variations to management.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 7 years' proven experience in carpentry and general building.
- Demonstrable experience installing and remedially repairing fire doors.
- Excellent knowledge of first and second fix carpentry.
- Competent in a wide range of general building and maintenance tasks.
- Hard working and willing to always be on hand.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good understanding of current Building Regulations and health and safety legislation.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Own hand tools and power tools suitable for the role.
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent).
- CSCS Card.
- Fire Door Inspection or Installation qualification (FIRAS, BM TRADA, FDIS or equivalent).
- PASMA, IPAF or other relevant construction qualifications.
- First Aid at Work certificate.
