We're looking for an experienced and driven Specialist Lifting Planner to join our Heavy Haulage and Specialist Lifting division. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised Transport Planner who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys solving complex logistical challenges.
Working closely with the Head of Heavy Haulage and Specialist Lifting, you'll play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of specialist transport operations across the UK. No two days are the same, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys variety, responsibility and being at the centre of operational success.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Specialist Lifting Planner, you'll be responsible for:
- Planning and coordinating specialist lifting and transport operations across the UK.
- Maximising fleet utilisation through effective route planning and geographical knowledge.
- Ensuring compliance with Drivers' Hours Regulations and Working Time Directive legislation.
- Managing daily transport plans while maintaining exceptional customer service standards.
- Briefing and debriefing drivers at the start and end of their shifts.
- Supervising driver workloads and sourcing additional drivers when operationally required.
- Responding proactively to last-minute changes, delays and route amendments.
- Updating planning systems accurately to ensure KPI and operational targets are achieved.
- Maintaining clear communication with drivers, customers and depot teams throughout the day.
- Planning work schedules around vehicle maintenance and defect repairs to minimise downtime.
- Liaising with Site Managers to provide accurate ETAs and operational updates.
- Escalating customer or operational issues appropriately to the Transport or Operations Manager.
- Working collaboratively with the wider planning team to deliver outstanding service to our customers.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is proactive, solutions-focused and passionate about delivering operational excellence. You'll ideally have:
- Previous experience working as a Transport Planner within a busy transport environment.
- HIAB and flatbed planning experience.
- Experience managing drivers and coordinating workloads.
- A sound understanding of transport operating systems and tachograph regulations.
- Excellent geographical knowledge and route planning abilities.
- Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- The ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively under pressure.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A proactive approach with the confidence to make decisions and solve problems independently.
- Strong IT and numeracy skills.
