The role
As Group Financial Controller, you'll oversee all accounting operations across the Reacton Group, covering both Reacton Fire Suppression Ltd and Fireward Ltd. Reporting to the Group Finance Director, you'll own accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance and efficient day-to-day operations — while partnering with our operations and sales teams to help drive the business forward.
It's a hands-on, high-visibility position for someone who wants their work to count. You'll lead and mentor the finance team, contribute in weekly operational meetings, and turn numbers into the insight that shapes decisions on pricing, performance and strategy.
Key responsibilities
- Managing all day-to-day accounting operations within the finance team, including sales ledger, purchase ledger, general ledger and all banking facilities
- Preparing accurate, timely monthly management accounts for Finance Director review, along with financial analysis and supporting reconciliations
- Managing cashflow, overseeing cash and optimising accounts receivable and payable processes
- Overseeing the payroll function, including pension contributions and benefits
- Ensuring accurate and timely completion of VAT returns
- Ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with accounting standards and company policies, and keeping all records up to date and available for audit
- Supporting the operational purchasing and procurement team, including process compliance and costings review
- Providing the analytics that support the pricing structure of the business
- Attending weekly operational meetings and providing financial support to the wider business
- Delivering financial insight to senior management to support informed decision-making
- Managing, mentoring and developing members of the finance team
- Supporting the annual budgeting process and monitoring financial performance against budget
- Monitoring and reviewing business controls, systems and processes, reporting inefficiencies and improvements to the Finance Director
- Supporting the Finance Director on planned and ad-hoc projects
- Being hands-on and able to cover related duties across the team as required
What you'll bring
Essential
- A professional accountancy qualification
- Proven experience in a similar role, with strong financial management, analytical and problem-solving skills
- A solid grasp of accounting standards and ERP systems
- Team leadership experience and excellent communication skills
- Strong Excel skills, and the ability to stay calm and diplomatic under pressure
Desirable
- 5+ years' experience, ideally post-qualified (PQE), and ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
- Involvement in audit processes
- Experience with Sage 200 (or other Sage products), manufacturing and stock management
