ABOUT US
BTS Cars is an independent used car dealer in Derby. We sell around 800 cars a year and hold 60 to 100 cars in stock at any time. We buy through Motorway, BCA and lease-company channels, sell mainly through AutoTrader, and prepare cars in our own workshop with our own valeting team. We run on modern tools: our AI assistant, Rose, does the chasing, the reminders and a lot of the admin, so the people here spend their time on customers and cars.
THE JOB
Aftersales at BTS is one person's responsibility, and we need someone who takes it seriously. You will own it end to end.
- Set up and run our own in-house warranty scheme: cover levels, pricing, terms, the claims process and the paperwork behind it. Today we sell third-party warranties; you will replace them with ours.
- Handle every claim and complaint: get the diagnostics, decide what is fair, approve what we owe, reject what we do not, and put the decision in writing. You know the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and how the 30-day and 6-month rules actually work.
- Spot the claims that do not add up: exaggerated faults, pre-existing damage, wear dressed up as failure. You see them coming and handle them without losing a genuine customer.
- Book repairs anywhere in the country. Many of our customers live hours away. You find garages near them, get two or three quotes, choose the cheapest one that will do the job properly, agree the price and check the invoice.
- Answer every aftersales email and call within one working day and keep the customer informed until the job is closed. Our Trustpilot rating depends on it.
- Keep the paperwork moving on the day: Motorway cancellation and price-adjustment forms, finance-house complaints and unwinds, part-exchange refunds, recall and MOT bookings on stock cars.
- Sell cars part of the time: forecourt customers, handovers, add-ons. You earn commission on every car and every warranty you sell.
- Photograph cars for our adverts when needed. We use a phone-based photo system and will train you.
YOU
- At least 5 years in motor-trade aftersales, warranty, service advisor or claims work. 10 years is what we would love to see.
- Hands-on warranty claims experience, self-administered or with a third-party provider.
- Comfortable saying no, politely, in writing, and standing by it.
- Organised and evidence-led: you work from a list, you close things, and nobody has to chase you.
- A negotiator who can get a fair price out of a garage and a fair outcome with a customer.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Nice to have: used-car sales experience, dealer management system experience (we use ClickDealer), a technical background.
PAY AND HOURS
- £36,000 to £48,000 basic, depending on experience.
- Uncapped commission on the cars and warranties you sell. £50,000 or more in your first year is realistic for the right person.
- Full time, on site in Derby. Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, with occasional Saturdays by arrangement.
- 28 days' holiday including bank holidays, and a workplace pension.
HOW TO APPLY
Send your CV to [email protected] with the subject line "Aftersales", and answer these three questions in the email. Short answers are fine; we read every one.
1. Tell us about a warranty claim you rejected: why, and how the customer took it.
2. A customer 150 miles away reports a gearbox fault six weeks after buying. What do you do in the first 24 hours, and how do you choose the garage?
3. How do you keep 30 open jobs from slipping, so nobody ever has to chase you?
