Domestic Assistant – Bramblings Residential Home
Location: Longfield, Kent
Rate of pay: £12.71 per hour
Hours: 25 hours per week, worked over five shifts of five hours each. The rota includes Saturday one week and Sunday the following week.
About the role
Bramblings Residential Home is looking for a reliable, thorough and caring Domestic Assistant to help keep our home clean, comfortable and welcoming for our residents.
You will play an important part in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the home. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and has a kind, respectful approach towards older people, including those living with dementia.
Main duties
- Clean residents’ bedrooms, including dusting, wiping surfaces, vacuuming and mopping floors, and emptying bins.
- Clean and disinfect bathrooms, toilets and communal washrooms, paying particular attention to frequently touched surfaces.
- Keep lounges, dining areas, corridors, reception areas and other shared spaces clean and presentable.
- Regularly clean touchpoints such as door handles, handrails, light switches and lift buttons.
- Follow daily, weekly and periodic cleaning schedules, completing cleaning records accurately.
- Carry out scheduled deep cleaning, including rooms being prepared for new residents.
- Respond promptly to spillages and undertake cleaning following accidents, using the appropriate protective equipment and procedures.
- Use the home’s colour-coded cleaning equipment correctly to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.
- Follow infection prevention procedures, including any additional cleaning measures required during an outbreak.
- Handle and dispose of waste safely, following the home’s waste segregation procedures.
- Use cleaning products safely and in accordance with instructions, training and COSHH procedures.
- Keep cleaning equipment clean and stored securely, ensuring chemicals and cleaning trolleys are not left accessible to residents.
- Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels and toilet rolls, and report stock shortages.
- Report maintenance issues, damaged equipment and any concerns about residents’ safety or wellbeing promptly.
- Work considerately around residents, respecting their privacy, dignity, belongings and daily routines.
- Cooperate with care staff and other colleagues to organise cleaning around residents’ needs.
About you
We are looking for someone who:

- Can work independently and as part of a team.
- Is friendly, patient and respectful towards older people.
- Understands the importance of confidentiality and treating residents’ rooms as their own private space.
- Is willing to undertake training in safe cleaning practices and infection prevention.
- Can work the required weekend rota: Saturday one week and Sunday the following week.
Previous cleaning experience, particularly in a care home, healthcare or hospitality setting, would be an advantage. A conscientious attitude and willingness to learn are equally important.
