The Company
Join a finance team that's evolving
Culture Quarter operates The Fire Station, a thriving live music, events and hospitality venue in Sunderland, alongside a growing portfolio of creative and cultural activities.
We're looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance Team during an exciting period of development. We've invested heavily in systems including Iplicit and Fourth and are committed to continually improving our finance processes and reporting.
The Role
We are seeking a proactive, highly organised Assistant Accountant to take responsibility for our core month-end close processes and technical ledger management. Working directly alongside our Finance Director in our small team, you will play a central role in maintaining financial control, driving month-end accuracy, and ensuring the integrity of our financial records.
Crucially, this is a technical month-end role, not a transactional admin job. You will be supported by a dedicated finance administrator handling day-to-day invoice processing and transactional inputs, freeing you up to focus on balance sheet integrity, core reconciliations, and management accounting support.
If you are a part-qualified accountant or AAT-qualified professional, who loves clean balance sheets, tight reconciliations, and streamlined accounting processes, this is the perfect platform to elevate your career.
Key responsibilities:
- Month-End Preparation: Prepare monthly management accounts to review stage and maintain supporting working papers and reconciliations.
- Balance Sheet Control: Maintain robust balance sheet controls and investigate discrepancies.
- Ledger Integrity: Support the accuracy and completeness of the general ledger and financial records.
- Operational Accounting: Process event settlements, stock accounting and other operational finance activities.
- Audit & Compliance Support: Maintain high-quality financial records and support audit preparation activities.
What we are looking for:
- Communication: Clear, confident communicator capable of collaborating across operational teams and venue leads.
- Background: AAT Level 4 qualified or actively studying towards a professional accounting qualification (ACCA/CIMA/AAT).
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Excel and experience using modern cloud finance platforms (e.g., Iplicit, Xero, or similar).
- Mindset: Methodical, detail-oriented, and naturally curious about system improvements and process efficiency.
How to Apply:
We take attention to detail seriously, so generic 1-click CV dumps will be automatically archived.
To apply, submit your CV alongside a brief note (typed into the Indeed application message box OR included in an attached cover letter) stating:
- Your current qualification status (e.g., AAT qualified, part-qualified, or active studier) and month-end experience.
- The last live event, gig, show, or sporting event you attended.
Applications that do not address these points will not be considered.
Pay: £29,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Discounted or free food
- Employee discount
- Work from home
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Sunderland SR1 3HA
