ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re a growing specialty coffee roaster based near Bristol, and part of a wider group with a central finance function headed by a CFO and Finance Manager. This role sits within the roastery itself — your primary focus is serving the business unit and its leadership day-to-day.
You’ll own site-level management accounts, drive operational insight across roasting, supply, and stock, and keep the financial controls running smoothly with outsourced bookkeeping support. At the same time, you’ll work closely with the group CFO and Finance Manager, feeding into group reporting and maintaining alignment with central finance.
This is a broad, varied role that suits someone who wants genuine ownership and variety without the demands of a five-day week. We care about finding the right person, not ticking a box on a CV — whether you’re a few years into your career, fully qualified, or returning to finance after a break, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re open to 3 or 4 days a week and happy to discuss a working pattern that fits. We actively welcome applications from people returning to work after a career break, and from those looking for a substantive part-time role that fits around other commitments.
FOUR PILLARS OF THE ROLE
Operational finance
Cost accounting, margin analysis, and financial support for roasting, blending, and supply decisions
Reporting & planning
Site-level management accounts, budgeting and forecasts, feeding into group reporting templates and timelines
Stock management
Overseeing stocktakes, reconciling physical vs book inventory, and maintaining accurate stock valuations
Financial controls
Oversight of payables, receivables, payment runs, and cash management with outsourced team support
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts for the roastery, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow, with clear commentary for the MD and group finance team
- Feed site-level financials into group reporting packs on time and to the standard set by the central FD and FC — flagging issues or variances proactively
- Build and maintain product-level cost models — tracking green bean costs, roasting yields, packaging, and blending margins across the range
- Own the stock accounting process end-to-end: plan and coordinate regular stocktakes, reconcile physical counts against the book, investigate variances, and maintain accurate inventory valuations on the balance sheet
- Work closely with the roasting and operations team to capture stock movements, wastage, and yield losses accurately in the accounts
- Support site-level budgeting and rolling forecast processes, working with operational leads on assumptions and aligning outputs with group timelines
- Maintain a suite of weekly and monthly KPIs covering sales, margin, waste, stock levels, and working capital
- Oversee the outsourced AP and AR function — reviewing aged reports, approving payment runs, and resolving escalations
- Monitor cash flow and maintain short-term cash forecasts, keeping the group finance team informed of any pressures
- Act as the day-to-day finance business partner to the roastery MD and operational leads, translating numbers into clear insight
- Support the group CFO and Finance Manager on ad hoc analysis, year-end, audit, and cross-business finance projects
