Ron Brooks Limited, a fast-paced and rapidly growing automotive group proudly serving the East Midlands, is excited to announce a brand-new opportunity for Compound Assistant to join our expanding team at our Ilkeston site.
Job Purpose:
To support the efficient day-to-day operation of the vehicle compound by ensuring vehicles are safely moved, organised, checked, and prepared for collection, delivery, display, or onward processing. The Compound Assistant will maintain high standards of vehicle care, site safety, and housekeeping while providing practical support to the wider dealership or vehicle operations team.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Movement & Compound Operations
- Safely move and position vehicles around the dealership or vehicle compound.
- Park vehicles correctly in designated areas and maintain an organised vehicle stock layout.
- Prepare vehicles for customer collection, delivery, demonstrations, inspections, and transportation.
- Assist with vehicle movements between sales, service, parts, valeting, and preparation areas.
- Carry out vehicle handovers and collections where required.
- Ensure vehicle keys are managed securely and returned to the appropriate location.
- Report any vehicle damage, defects, warning lights, or operational issues promptly.
Vehicle Checks & Preparation
- Conduct basic vehicle condition checks when vehicles arrive on site or are moved between departments.
- Check vehicles for visible damage and ensure any issues are recorded and reported.
- Ensure vehicles are clean, presentable, and ready for their next stage of preparation or customer use.
- Check fuel levels, charging status, and basic vehicle condition as required.
- Support the preparation of new and used vehicles for display or customer collection.
Site & Compound Management
- Maintain a clean, tidy, safe, and well-organised compound and surrounding areas.
- Ensure vehicles are parked safely and do not obstruct access routes, fire exits, or operational areas.
- Follow all site traffic management procedures and health and safety requirements.
- Assist with the safe loading and unloading of vehicles from transporters where required and appropriately trained.
- Support stock movements and vehicle location records to ensure vehicles can be easily identified and located.
Customer & Team Support
- Provide a professional and helpful service to customers, suppliers, transport companies, and colleagues.
- Assist with customer vehicle collections and deliveries as required.
- Work closely with Sales, Aftersales, Vehicle Preparation, and Administration teams.
- Communicate vehicle movements and operational issues clearly and promptly.
Compliance & Safety
- Follow all company policies and procedures relating to health and safety, vehicle security, and site operations.
- Drive vehicles responsibly and in accordance with company requirements and relevant legislation.
- Report accidents, incidents, vehicle damage, and near misses immediately.
- Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality and protect customer and company information.
Skills & Experience:
Essential
- Full UK driving licence.
- Previous experience in driving, logistics, vehicle compound, dealership, or automotive environment is desirable.
- Good awareness of vehicle safety and site safety.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible approach to work.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Good communication skills.
Desirable
- Previous experience within a motor dealership or automotive environment.
- Experience handling new or used vehicles.
- Knowledge of vehicle preparation and dealership processes.
- Experience driving a range of vehicles, including automatic and electric/hybrid vehicles.
- Familiarity with vehicle stock management systems.

Working Conditions:
The role is primarily based on a vehicle compound or dealership site and involves regular outdoor work. The position requires frequent walking, standing, and vehicle movement throughout the working day. Some flexibility may be required to support operational demands, customer collections, vehicle deliveries, and transporter arrivals.
