Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join our healthcare team.
The successful candidate will provide high-quality, person-centred nursing care to service users with a range of mental health needs. You will work collaboratively with colleagues, families and other healthcare professionals to support service users’ physical, psychological and social wellbeing.
The role includes mental health assessment, care planning, risk management, medication administration, safeguarding and providing leadership to the wider care team.
What You Need
- A valid and current NMC registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN)
- At least one year of post-registration nursing experience, gained within or outside the NHS
- Experience supporting individuals with mental health conditions
- Strong knowledge of mental health assessment, care planning and risk management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Genuine empathy, professionalism and a commitment to person-centred care
- The ability to produce clear, accurate and well-documented clinical records
- Good IT skills and confidence using digital care-planning and reporting systems
- The ability to remain calm, professional and effective when working under pressure
- A strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, dignity and informed consent
Responsibilities
- Ensure service users remain at the heart of care delivery and that their wishes, preferences and individual needs are respected
- Assess and monitor service users’ mental health, physical health, emotional wellbeing and social care needs
- Develop, implement and regularly review person-centred care plans
- Complete mental health and clinical risk assessments and respond appropriately to identified risks
- Work collaboratively with service users, their families, advocates and members of the multidisciplinary team
- Support service users experiencing changes in their mental health, distress, anxiety, challenging behaviour or crisis
- Administer, manage and review medication in accordance with legal, professional and regulatory requirements
- Monitor the effectiveness and potential side effects of prescribed medication and escalate concerns appropriately
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential clinical records
- Promote recovery, independence, dignity, choice and social inclusion
- Provide reassurance, emotional support and therapeutic engagement to service users
- Recognise and respond swiftly and competently to emergencies or deterioration in a service user’s condition
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of all individuals supported by the service
- Lead, organise and guide the care team, ensuring staff understand their duties and responsibilities
- Provide clinical supervision, support and guidance to care staff where appropriate
- Communicate concerns promptly to the Home Manager and relevant healthcare professionals
- Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and undertake ongoing professional development
- Work in accordance with the NMC Code, current best practice, company policies, legislative requirements and relevant regulations
- Support the effective delivery of the nursing and care functions of the service
- Deliver nursing care within agreed policies, procedures, quality standards and financial plans
Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience working in a mental health, nursing, residential or other clinical care setting
- Experience supporting adults with complex mental health needs
- Strong mental health assessment and patient-care skills
- Knowledge of safeguarding, capacity, consent and least-restrictive practice
- Familiarity with medication administration procedures and best practice
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership and teamworking abilities
- The ability to manage challenging situations professionally and compassionately
- A commitment to delivering safe, respectful and high-quality care
