Overview
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Plant Fitter to join our team, specialising in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of heavy machinery including excavators, forklifts, and other plant equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, along with experience in fabrication and welding. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and safety of our heavy plant machinery through routine maintenance and repairs.
Duties
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on heavy plant equipment such as excavators and forklifts
- Diagnose faults using schematics and electrical diagrams, then perform necessary repairs
- Fabricate components as required using welding, soldering, and assembly techniques
- Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to repair or replace faulty parts
- Repair hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, and mechanical components to ensure operational efficiency
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and repairs performed
- Assist with the installation of new equipment or modifications to existing machinery
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and company standards
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding repairs and maintenance schedules
Skills
- Proven experience in fabrication, welding, soldering, and working with schematics
- Strong electrical experience combined with mechanical knowledge of heavy machinery
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment for assembly and repair tasks
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics accurately
- Experience in repairing excavators, forklifts, or similar heavy plant machinery
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, and general equipment maintenance
- Capable of heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during complex repairs
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on troubleshooting faults efficiently
- Good customer service skills to liaise effectively with clients regarding maintenance requirements
