We’re looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to lead and develop our maintenance team within a busy waste processing plant. This role is key to maximising plant uptime, improving fault diagnosis, and driving a strong maintenance culture.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Getting stuck in on breakdowns, fault finding, and repairs
- Keeping the plant running with limited tools, spares, and external support
- Thinking on your feet and finding practical solutions under pressure
- Working alongside the team to build capability through doing, not telling
- Creating a resilient, self-sufficient maintenance function
- Improving uptime through real-world fixes, not theory
The Reality of the Role
This is not for the faint-hearted. You will be:
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Operating in a dirty, noisy, physically demanding environment
- Working at heights and in confined spaces
- Tackling problems where the answer isn’t obvious — and sometimes doesn’t exist yet
What We’re Looking For
- Strong hands-on mechanical experience (conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, etc.)
- Someone who rolls up their sleeves and leads by example
- Resourceful and resilient — able to make things work with what’s available
- Comfortable stepping outside normal process when needed (safely and sensibly)
- A problem solver who gets the job done, no matter the conditions
Why join us?
- Key role in improving plant performance and reliability
- Opportunity to shape team capability and maintenance standards
- Supportive environment focused on continuous improvement
Pay: £55,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
