We are looking for a reliable, highly observant and knowledgeable Vehicle Appraiser & Collection Driver to join our team.
This is not simply a driving position. The successful candidate will act as our eyes on the ground when inspecting and collecting vehicles and will play an important role in ensuring the condition of each vehicle is accurately assessed before it is accepted by DNA Autohaus.
Key ResponsibilitiesVehicle Appraisal
- Carry out thorough visual inspections of vehicles prior to collection.
- Identify scratches, dents, stone chips, scuffs and other cosmetic damage.
- Look for evidence of previous paintwork, overspray, poor repairs, mismatched paint and unusual panel gaps.
- Inspect alloy wheels, tyres, glass, lights and exterior trim.
- Check interiors for damage, excessive wear, missing equipment and general condition.
- Confirm that the vehicle's condition and specification are consistent with the information provided prior to purchase.
- Take clear photographs and videos of any defects or concerns.
- Immediately report any significant discrepancies to the Dealer Principal before accepting the vehicle or proceeding with the collection.
Mechanical Checks
- Carry out a basic mechanical inspection prior to collection.
- Check for dashboard warning lights and obvious mechanical concerns.
- Carry out an appropriate test drive.
- Identify unusual engine, gearbox, suspension, steering or braking noises/behaviour.
- Check basic items such as tyres, fluid levels and visible mechanical condition.
- Use a basic diagnostic/OBD scanner to check vehicles for stored fault codes.
- Report any faults or concerns before the purchase/collection is completed.
Vehicle Collections
- Travel nationwide to inspect and collect vehicles purchased by DNA Autohaus.
- Safely drive high-value and performance vehicles back to our Kidderminster premises.
- Ensure vehicles are collected efficiently and within the agreed collection schedule.
- Keep the Dealer Principal updated regarding arrival, inspection and return times.
- Complete all required collection and appraisal documentation accurately.
- Assist with other vehicle movements when reasonably required.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will have:
- A full UK driving licence.
- An excellent eye for detail.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle condition and cosmetic defects.
- The ability to recognise paintwork, scratches, dents and signs of previous body repairs.
- Basic mechanical knowledge.
- Confidence test-driving and handling high-performance vehicles.
- The ability to recognise obvious mechanical faults or abnormal vehicle behaviour.
- Basic knowledge of diagnostic/OBD equipment and the ability to check for fault codes.
- Good communication skills.
- Good time management and the ability to plan journeys efficiently.
- A professional and trustworthy approach.
- The ability to work independently and make careful assessments.
- Flexibility regarding working times due to the nature of nationwide vehicle collections.
Applicants must also meet the eligibility requirements of our motor-trade insurance policy for driving company and stock vehicles.
Previous Experience
Previous experience within the automotive industry is highly desirable.
Experience in any of the following would be particularly advantageous:
- Vehicle appraisal/inspection
- Used vehicle buying
- Bodyshop or paintwork
- SMART repair
- Vehicle detailing
- Automotive workshop/mechanical work
- Vehicle logistics or collection
- Main dealer or independent dealership
- Vehicle transporter or trailer driving
Previous trailer/transporter experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
Working Pattern
This is a full-time position; however, it does not operate around rigid daily start and finish times.
Vehicle collection times vary depending on the location of the vehicle, seller availability and travelling time. Some days may therefore require an earlier start or later finish.
The successful candidate must be comfortable with a flexible working pattern and nationwide travel.
Efficient journey planning and completing collections within reasonable timescales are an important part of the role.
All authorised business travel expenses will be covered by DNA Autohaus.
Salary
£28,000–£30,000 per annum, depending on experience.
