Job Purpose
The Order Picker is responsible for accurately picking customer orders, replenishment stock, or internal transfer requirements in line with business procedures. The role supports the wider warehouse operation by ensuring goods are picked safely, efficiently, and accurately to meet dispatch deadlines and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Pick customer orders accurately using pick sheets, scanners, handheld devices, or warehouse management systems.
- Ensure the correct product, size, colour, quantity, and location are selected for each order.
- Move or stage picked items in the correct area for checking, packing, dispatch, or internal transfer.
- Report stock shortages, damaged goods, incorrect locations, or system discrepancies to a Team Leader or Manager.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, productivity, and housekeeping within the warehouse.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including safe manual handling and correct use of warehouse equipment.
- Support stock control activities, including stock checks, cycle counts, and replenishment where required.
- Ensure goods are handled carefully to prevent damage or loss.
- Work as part of a team to meet daily operational targets and dispatch deadlines.
- Keep work areas clean, organised, and free from hazards.
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and standards at all times.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Previous warehouse, order picking, packing, retail stockroom, or similar experience is desirable but not essential.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to follow instructions and work to set processes.
- Good timekeeping and reliability.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable:
- Experience using handheld scanners or warehouse management systems.
- Previous experience working to pick targets or productivity standards.
- Manual handling training.
- Forklift, pallet truck, or other warehouse equipment experience, where relevant.
