Stepford Group Ltd delivers civil engineering and infrastructure works for local authorities across Scotland. Our workload includes roadworks, streetworks, drainage, public realm improvements, footway construction, surfacing and general civil engineering works.
The Role
The position involves working as part of an experienced site team to deliver roadworks, groundworks and general civil engineering projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard. The role is suitable for an experienced road worker or civil engineering operative. We will also consider applicants with a good practical construction background who are reliable, willing to learn and interested in developing their experience within the roads and civil engineering sector.
Typical duties will include:
- Construction and repair of roads, footways and other paved areas.
- Excavation and preparation of formation and sub-base materials.
- Kerbing, edging, paving and concrete works.
- Installation and repair of drainage pipes, gullies, manholes and channels.
- Hand digging and excavation around existing underground services.
- Operating small tools, compactors, breakers, saws and other site equipment.
- Maintaining safe and tidy working areas.
- Following drawings, instructions, risk assessments and method statements.
- Completing daily plant, vehicle and equipment checks where required.
- Working safely within live roads, public spaces and local authority environments.
- Undertaking other general roadworks, groundworks and civil engineering duties as required.
Experience
Applicants should preferably have previous experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Roadworks and footway construction.
- Groundworks and drainage.
- Kerbing and paving.
- Asphalt reinstatement or road surfacing.
- Civil engineering or general construction.
Applications will be considered from both experienced operatives and candidates with relevant practical construction experience who demonstrate the right attitude, reliability and willingness to develop.
Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred:
- NRSWA Street Works qualification.
- CSCS card where an NRSWA qualification is not held.
- Excavator operator qualification or CPCS/NPORS card.
- Forward tipping dumper qualification or CPCS/NPORS card.
Additional qualifications, including abrasive wheels, manual handling, CAT and Genny, first aid or other construction-related training, would be advantageous.
Requirements
- Previous experience in roadworks, groundworks, construction or a similar practical role.
- Good understanding of site health and safety requirements.
- Reliable, punctual and willing to follow instructions.
- Good standard of workmanship and attention to detail.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
