Cover Design and Installation Technician – Marine & Leisure
Role Description
An exciting opportunity to join a market-leading designer and manufacturer of marine, industrial, garden and leisure covers, canopies and upholstery.
Established in 1989, C&J Marine Ltd enjoys an enviable reputation for quality and innovation for an outstanding range of high-end products to supply and install for existing and potential new trade and retail customers.
A typical week will be spent fulfilling customer appointments to either measure, pattern, design and/or install/deliver marine and garden and leisure products, working closely with both our design and manufacturing departments to ensure the vision that has been agreed with the customer is realised in the end supply of the product. When not off site, pattern sorting, framework manufacture and workshop assistance will also play part of your role. These roles will require the use of traditional cover manufacturing methods as well as new digital equipment.
Marine, Garden & Leisure are our core business, but there are other markets for our quality solutions such as agricultural, automotive and commercial to name a few. You should expect to travel to marinas, business and retail addresses along the south coast. During our busiest periods we aim to operate between Brighton and Poole, although longer distance journeys may occasionally be required for the right potential business opportunities. You must also be prepared to be flexible in your hours to accommodate any early starts/late finishes/stop-overs to ensure that orders and deadlines are met.
Cover manufacture, patterning and installation experience is preferred, although comprehensive on the job training and development is available if the successful candidate does not have this. It is imperative that you have experience and confidence with general practical techniques, the use of hand and power tools and a full clean driving licence.
Role Skills & Responsibilities
· Able to work outdoors or on the water, all year round, within the context of a marine and leisure environment
· Able to safely lift and manoeuvre large covers and associated equipment
· Comfortable working at height and using ladders where required
· Able to kneel, bend, stretch and reach when measuring, designing and installing covers
· Able to safely access boats, gardens, commercial sites and residential properties where installations take place
· Be flexible in working hours to accommodate any early starts/late finishes/stopovers
· Be competent in the use of hand and power tools, and understanding of health and safety and risk assessment requirements
· Have a full clean driving licence of both manual and automatic vehicles
· Meet with customers in their environment to understand and shape their needs and requirements
· Aim to demonstrate outstanding product knowledge and translate this knowledge into features and benefits that meet or exceed the customer’s expectations
· Install frameworks and covers for boats, outdoor/leisure awnings and other applications, ensuring that company standards for quality and customer satisfaction are met or exceeded
· Self-motivation and ownership of own activity and output
· Excellent communication skills across all formats and an ability to flex these according to the target audience
· Good spoken and written English, with the ability to read and understand job sheets, measurements, instructions and health and safety information.
· Flexibility and ability to plan, organise and adhere to timescales and deadlines
· Must-have attention to detail and accuracy
· Understand your part within the team and complete the job to the highest of standards
· Adhere to all company policies and procedures, ensuing that ‘One Best Way’ principles are implemented
Remuneration
- Reward Range £13.50 – £15.00 per hour, based on experience
- 40 hour working week (basic)
- 23 days holiday, of which 3 to be taken over the Christmas shutdown
- 8 paid Bank Holidays
- Ability to earn time in lieu when working out of basic hours
