Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Care Home (EBD)
Waltham Cross | £60,000 – £80,000 + Bonuses | Full-time, Permanent
Build a Home, Not Just Run One
Most Registered Manager roles hand you an existing home with its habits already set. This one doesn't. We're opening a brand-new solo provision — a single-occupancy therapeutic home for one young person with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) — and we're looking for someone to lead it from the very first day. You will lead the home through Ofsted registration, recruitment, mobilisation and launch before welcoming the first young person.
Running a successful solo home requires a different kind of leadership. Every aspect of the environment, staffing model and therapeutic culture is centred around one young person. Getting that right demands someone who understands not only complex needs, but also how to build and lead a resilient team around them. You'll decide how this home feels — you recruit the team, set the therapeutic approach, and establish the standards. It's more work than stepping into a running home, and more ownership than most managers ever get.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the setup, Ofsted registration and successful opening of the home, with the ambition of achieving a Good or Outstanding Ofsted judgement
- Build, lead, and develop a strong, therapeutic staff team from scratch
- Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring robust safeguarding practice across the home
- Create a safe, stable, trauma-informed environment built around the needs of one young person
- Deliver high-quality, child-centred care for a young person with EBD and complex behaviours
- Develop and maintain care plans, risk assessments, and placement matching processes
- Ensure full compliance with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards
- Manage day-to-day operations including staffing, rotas, supervision, and budgets
- Build strong relationships with Local Authorities, social workers, and other professionals
About You
Essential:
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards)
- Experience as a Registered Manager, or an experienced Deputy Manager who is ready for registration
- A solid background working with EBD and complex behaviours
- The knowledge and judgement to create the right environment for a young person in solo provision and the staff team supporting them
- Confident leading teams and managing Ofsted expectations
- Knowledge of trauma-informed, relationship-based care
- Resilient, organised, and ready to take ownership
- Full UK driving licence
Why This Role Stands Out
- Open and shape your own home from day one — your vision, your culture
- A single-occupancy home where you'll have real impact, focused entirely on one young person
- The freedom to implement your own therapeutic vision
- Direct access to the Responsible Individual and senior leadership, with genuine influence over how the service develops
- Backed by an experienced and supportive provider
- A genuine opportunity to help shape and grow a new organisation
- Clear career progression as additional homes are developed
We believe outstanding care comes from giving managers the time, autonomy and support to focus on children rather than unnecessary bureaucracy.
What You’ll Get
- A competitive salary of £60,000–£80,000, dependent on experience, registration history and demonstrated leadership capability
- The opportunity to lead a brand-new children's residential home from registration through to operation
- Future performance-related incentives linked to business growth and success
- Opportunities to broaden your leadership responsibilities as the organisation expands
- Ongoing professional development and investment in your career
- A supportive and collaborative leadership team that values innovation and quality
- Company pension, free on-site parking
