Job Overview
This is a full-time position and would suit someone who is already demonstrating strong leadership within their current role and is ready to take responsibility for leading a busy and well-established baby room.
We are looking for someone who is confident, organised, experienced and able to hit the ground running. The successful applicant will need to provide strong, consistent leadership while maintaining the highest standards of care, education and safeguarding.
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to lead by example.
- Confidence to make decisions, solve problems and remain calm under pressure in a busy room environment.
- A thorough understanding of high-quality baby room practice, routines, care, safeguarding, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and child development.
- The ability to supervise, motivate and direct the staff team effectively throughout the day.
- Experience of completing staff supervisions, appraisals and supporting staff performance and development.
- The ability to mentor apprentices, students and less experienced staff, providing coaching and ongoing support.
- Confidence in inducting new staff and ensuring they understand nursery policies, procedures, routines and expected standards of practice.
- Excellent communication skills when working with staff, parents, management and external professionals, including SEND services and the Local Authority where appropriate.
- A calm, organised and proactive approach, particularly when supporting children with additional needs and their families.
- A commitment to maintaining high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, inclusion and regulatory compliance.
- The ability to maintain accurate records, complete required documentation and ensure high standards of practice across the room.
- The ability to work independently, take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the room and deputise for management when required.
The Role will include responsibility for:
- Leading the day-to-day operation of the baby room.
- Ensuring consistently high standards of care, learning and development for every child.
- Supporting and developing the staff team through effective leadership and role modelling.
- Promoting positive relationships with parents and carers, ensuring they are well informed and involved in their child's development.
- Working closely with the management team to ensure nursery policies, procedures and quality standards are consistently met.
- Supporting children with additional needs through inclusive practice and partnership working with parents and external professionals.
- Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety and welfare requirements are met at all times.
- Promoting a positive, professional and supportive working environment where staff feel valued, accountable and motivated.
Experience
- Proven management or leadership experience within a childcare setting or nursery environment
- Extensive experience working directly with children, particularly young infants would be advantageous.
- Strong understanding of childcare regulations, health & safety standards, and best practices in nursery care
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with parents, staff, and external agencies
- A full and relevant Childcare Level 3 Qualifications in Early Years. such as NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or equivalent is essential.
- Experience with nursery management systems is advantageous

Pay: £29,640.00-£30,160.00 per year
