Garon Park Golf Complex is one of Southend’s leading sports and leisure destinations, owned and operated by the Norman Garon Trust, a local charity dedicated to improving community life through sport, wellbeing, and charitable initiatives.
Our facilities include a golf complex, clubhouse, driving range, café, bar, and event spaces, welcoming golfers, visitors, and community groups throughout the year.
We are now seeking a Sous Chef to join our catering team and help deliver high-quality food across our café, bar, events, and functions.
The Role
Reporting to the Head Chef / Head of F&B, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen. This is a hands-on role suited to a passionate and organised chef who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and presentation.
You will support the Head Chef in menu preparation, kitchen operations, and team leadership, ensuring an excellent food experience for all customers.
Salary will be offered in line with the successful candidate’s skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef with daily kitchen operations and food preparation
- Prepare, cook, and present dishes to a consistently high standard
- Support menu development and specials in line with seasonal availability
- Ensure compliance with all food hygiene, health & safety, and COSHH regulations
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen
- Help manage stock control, ordering, and minimising waste
- Supervise and support junior kitchen staff when required
- Assist with catering for events, functions, and busy service periods
- Ensure excellent standards of food presentation and portion control
About You
You will be passionate about food, well organised, and able to work calmly under pressure. You will take pride in your work, have strong attention to detail, and enjoy working as part of a close-knit team delivering great food and service.
You will be reliable, flexible, and committed to maintaining high standards in a busy catering environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong experience as a Chef de Partie
- Good knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations
- A strong understanding of food hygiene and safety standards
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime
Desirable (but not essential)
- Relevant catering qualifications
- Experience in a café, restaurant, or events catering environment
- Experience working within a leisure, sports, or hospitality venue
- Food Safety Level 2 or higher
