The Medical Officer plays a key role in supporting the health of students attending Ruskin Mill College. In addition to overseeing student medical needs, the postholder will contribute to admissions and transition planning, medication governance, staff training, healthcare liaison, medical risk management and safeguarding processes. The role involves close collaboration with educational, residential and healthcare professionals to ensure students receive safe, effective and holistic support. Key responsibilities include:
· To oversee the medical needs of students, working closely with Education Health and Care Managers and Residential Management teams to support students' physical health, mental health, resilience and overall wellbeing.
· Conduct awareness training on epilepsy, diabetes, blood-borne viruses and handling medication.
· To manage a varied workload, ensuring appropriate medical cover is maintained across the College and residential sites.
· To encourage and promote an integrative approach to health care, with a willingness to engage with anthroposophical medicine and care.
· To act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, supporting the safeguarding of students and ensuring compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures.
· To be aware of and support the healthy rhythms of the students, such as their sleep, digestion and nutrition and offer staff support and advice to maintain and improve these where necessary.
· Deliver regular training and competency assessments to ensure staff have the skills and confidence to respond appropriately to medical needs and emergency situations.
· Maintain, record and update individual medical records for each student and ensure information is shared with relevant stakeholders as appropriate.
To undertake this position successfully you will be:
- Medically qualified.
- A member of a Medical Professional governing body.
- Have a commitment to continuing professional development.
The successful applicant will take part in an interactive induction to experience the crafts within the curriculum and experience the student journey. You would also be provided with financial support toward the cost of clinical supervisions.
