About Us
Midlands Flooring Ltd is an established commercial flooring contractor specialising in the supply and installation of flooring across the commercial, retail, healthcare and new-build sectors.
We work with main contractors, shopfitters and commercial clients on projects ranging from smaller refurbishments through to large-scale new-build developments.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Commercial Flooring Estimator to join our team.
The Role
As a Commercial Flooring Estimator, you will be responsible for pricing flooring packages from initial enquiry through to quotation, working closely with our clients, suppliers and internal team to ensure we provide accurate and competitive tenders.
The role would suit someone with experience within commercial flooring, construction estimating or a similar environment who understands the importance of accurate take-offs, material pricing, labour costs and commercial margins.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender information.
- Completing accurate flooring take-offs and measurements.
- Pricing labour, materials, floor preparation and associated works.
- Obtaining and negotiating material prices with suppliers.
- Preparing detailed and competitive quotations.
- Reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Identifying exclusions, assumptions and areas requiring clarification.
- Liaising with clients, main contractors and suppliers.
- Following up tenders and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Working closely with the Contracts and Commercial teams when projects are secured.
- Ensuring quotations are accurate, commercially viable and submitted within tender deadlines.
- Maintaining a strong understanding of current material and labour costs.
- Identifying opportunities and potential risks within tender packages.
Experience & Skills
Essential:
- Previous experience in estimating within construction, commercial flooring or a related industry.
- Good understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Commercially aware with a good understanding of costs and margins.
- Good communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
Desirable:
- Previous experience within the commercial flooring industry.
- Experience using Callidus or MeasureSquare for take-offs and estimating.
- Knowledge of flooring products, installation methods and floor preparation.
- Existing relationships with flooring manufacturers and suppliers.
Flooring Knowledge
Knowledge of the following would be advantageous:
- LVT
- Carpet tiles
- Sheet vinyl
- Safety flooring
- Entrance matting
- Carpet
- Vinyl welding and coved skirtings
- Floor preparation
- DPMs and smoothing compounds
- Timber flooring and associated floor finishes
