We’re looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Line Chef to join the kitchen team at The Chequers in Ranby, near Retford.
The Chequers is a busy pub and restaurant serving a varied food menu, and we’re looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a team, takes pride in the food they produce and can maintain high standards even during busy services.
As a Line Chef, you’ll be an important part of the day-to-day running of the kitchen, preparing and cooking dishes consistently to specification while helping to keep your section organised, stocked and ready for service.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and cooking dishes consistently to the required specification and presentation standards.
- Working across different sections of the kitchen as required.
- Completing preparation ahead of service and ensuring your section is fully stocked and organised.
- Maintaining good speed of service without compromising food quality or presentation.
- Following all food hygiene, allergen and health & safety procedures.
- Completing food labelling, temperature checks and other kitchen due diligence accurately.
- Ensuring stock is correctly stored and rotated to minimise waste.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen.
- Communicating effectively with the rest of the kitchen and front-of-house teams during service.
- Assisting with deliveries, stock control and kitchen organisation where required.
- Contributing ideas for specials, events and menu development.
- Supporting other members of the kitchen team during particularly busy periods.
- Taking responsibility for maintaining the standards of your section throughout your shift.
What We’re Looking For
Previous experience working within a pub, restaurant or similar commercial kitchen would be preferred, although we’re particularly interested in finding someone with the right attitude and willingness to develop.
You should be:
- Confident working within a busy kitchen environment.
- Passionate about producing good-quality, well-presented food.
- Organised and able to manage your preparation effectively.
- Comfortable working under pressure during busy services.
- Reliable and able to work well as part of a team.
- Able to follow recipes, specifications and kitchen procedures consistently.
- Familiar with basic food hygiene and allergen requirements.
- Willing to learn and develop your skills further.
The role will include a mixture of daytime, evening and weekend shifts, so flexibility is essential.

Pay: From £13.00 per hour
