The New Golf Club, St Andrews
A unique opportunity to lead the kitchen at one of St Andrews most established private members golf clubs.
The New Golf Club is a prestigious private members club situated in the heart of St Andrews, with a proud history, strong membership and an excellent reputation for the quality of its hospitality, food and service.
As we look to the future, we are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and hands-on Head Chef to lead our kitchen team and build on the excellent reputation we have established.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a chef who enjoys being on the pass and in the kitchen, rather than a role focused solely on administration and management. You will lead a small, committed brigade and play a key role in delivering consistently high standards across all areas of the Club.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, working closely with the General Manager, Club management and Front-of-House team.
Our food offering is varied. We provide a quality Members Lounge menu, regular Club functions and dinners, private dining and special occasions, together with larger events and party catering.
We are therefore looking for a chef who is equally comfortable producing excellent, well-presented food for members on a busy service as they are creating a more refined fine-dining experience for a private dinner.
You will also need to have the experience and organisational ability to plan and execute food for larger parties and functions, ensuring that quality and presentation are maintained regardless of the numbers involved.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
- Be an experienced and accomplished Head Chef, Sous Chef or senior chef ready to take the next step.
- Be a genuinely hands-on working chef who enjoys leading from the front.
- Have experience working with a small kitchen brigade and be comfortable being involved in every aspect of service.
- Have a strong understanding of modern British and Scottish cuisine and quality seasonal produce.
- Be capable of producing excellent food for a members lounge environment, where consistency and value are important.
- Have the creativity and technical ability to deliver fine dining and special occasion menus for private dinners.
- Have experience planning and delivering catering for larger parties, functions and Club events.
- Be confident menu planning, costing dishes and managing food GP.
- Have excellent standards of food hygiene, preparation, presentation and kitchen cleanliness.
- Be organised and calm under pressure.
- Be a strong team leader who can develop, motivate and support a small brigade.
- Be commercially aware while never compromising on quality.
- Understand the importance of working closely with the front-of-house team to deliver an exceptional overall member experience.
- Have excellent communication skills and a positive, professional attitude.
About You
We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their food and understands that working in a private members club is about much more than simply producing good dishes.
Our members know and appreciate quality, consistency and personal service. The successful candidate will therefore be someone who takes the time to understand our members, responds positively to feedback and continually looks for ways to improve what we offer.
You will be expected to bring your own ideas and personality to the kitchen while respecting the traditions and expectations of the Club.
Most importantly, you will want to make things better.
The Opportunity
The New Golf Club has an excellent reputation, and our ambition is to protect that reputation while continuing to enhance and develop our food offering.
With our busy members lounge, private dining, Club events and larger functions, there is considerable scope for the successful candidate to make their mark.
This is an opportunity for a chef who wants to become an important part of the Club, build a strong kitchen team and establish a food operation of which both members and staff can be proud.
If you are a passionate chef who enjoys being in the kitchen, leading a team and producing great food across a variety of styles and service requirements, we would like to hear from you.
