We're recruiting a Building Surveyor to join District Council's Assets Team. This is a key technical role, ideal for someone with strong project management and surveying expertise, confident in delivering housing and property maintenance programmes in line with legislation.
About the Role
As a Building Surveyor, you'll undertake a full range of project management and building surveying duties to maintain and improve the Council's property portfolio and housing stock. You'll ensure compliance with statutory responsibilities while delivering high-quality outcomes for tenants, leaseholders, and staff.
What you'll be doing:
- Project management: Planning, specification, procurement, implementation, and delivery of planned works and cyclical maintenance contracts
- Surveying duties: Stock condition surveys, defect inspections, feasibility studies, technical drawings, tender specifications, and compliance applications
- Client liaison: Acting as a point of contact for clients/customers, processing work requests, instructing contractors, and providing technical advice
- Contract administration: Managing valuations, payments, final accounts, contractor performance, and maintaining auditable records
- Health & Safety compliance: Ensuring all works meet CDM Regulations and other relevant legislation
- Data analysis: Interpreting stock condition data, risk assessments, and repair requests to plan effective programmes of work
Requirements
We're seeking someone proactive, technically skilled, and confident in managing complex projects.
You'll ideally have:
- HNC, HND, or Degree in the built environment, or 3+ years' relevant experience with a local authority/housing provider
- Experience in building surveys, project management of major works, and budget monitoring
- Knowledge of fire safety, asbestos, gas, mechanical & electrical services
- Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Confident IT skills (Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD)
- A driving licence or access to transport
- Professional membership (RICS, CIOB, MCABE) desirable

Budgetary Scope: Projects range from <£10k to £1m+, contributing to Housing Investment Programme (£3.5m–£6.7m) and Corporate Property Maintenance (£1m annually)
