Casework Manager
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Casework Manager with a strong legal background to oversee and support the effective management of casework across the organisation.
The successful candidate will ideally hold a law degree and have experience as a qualified solicitor or possess equivalent legal experience. They will have a thorough understanding of legal processes, case progression, and workload management within a busy legal environment.
This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient progression of matters, maintaining compliance with regulatory and organisational requirements, supporting fee earners, and delivering high-quality legal services to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate day-to-day casework across the team.
- Monitor case progression to ensure court deadlines, key milestones, and client expectations are met.
- Allocate and prioritise casework to ensure fair and effective workload management across the department.
- Ensure all staff maintain an appropriate caseload and provide guidance on prioritisation, time management, and effective case handling.
- Provide oversight and support on complex, sensitive, or high-risk matters.
- Assist fee earners with legal processes, procedural requirements, and case strategy where appropriate.
- Conduct regular file reviews and quality assurance checks to maintain high professional standards.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory obligations, and Legal Aid Agency requirements where applicable.
- Identify delays, risks, and inefficiencies in case progression and implement practical solutions to improve performance.
- Liaise with solicitors, barristers, courts, experts, and external agencies to facilitate the effective progression of cases.
- Support the onboarding, training, and ongoing development of staff, including guidance on case management systems and best practice.
- Work closely with senior management to improve operational efficiency, service delivery, and team performance.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and ensure compliance with case management systems and reporting requirements.
Key Skills and Experience
Essential
- Law degree (LLB or equivalent).
- Significant experience managing casework within a legal environment.
- Strong understanding of legal procedures, case progression, and file management.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in case management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
- Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive, or equivalent legal qualification.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or managing legal staff.
- Knowledge of Legal Aid Agency requirements and legal aid practice.
- Experience implementing process improvements and operational efficiencies.
