Are you someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in keeping things organised, and thrives in a busy outdoor environment? We're looking for a Cask Handler / Forklift Operator to join our team at Oakwood Cooperage in Airdrie.
This is a varied and physically active role where you'll play an important part in the safe handling, movement, and storage of whisky casks while supporting the day-to-day operations of our cooperage. Whether you're experienced in logistics, warehousing, or manual handling—or you're looking to develop your skills in a unique industry—we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Cask Handler / Forklift Operator, your responsibilities will include:
- Loading and unloading whisky casks and equipment for transport and deliveries.
- Safely moving casks around the site using telehandler or forklift equipment (where qualified).
- Accurately counting, identifying, and recording cask stock.
- Preparing casks for dispatch and receiving incoming deliveries.
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe yard and workshop environment.
- Organising sheds, stock areas, pallets, and storage locations.
- Emptying skips and dust extraction bags as required.
- Updating visual stock boards to ensure accurate operational information.
- Carrying out general housekeeping and site maintenance duties.
- Using hand tools and equipment safely to support cooperage operations.
- Following all health and safety procedures and wearing the appropriate PPE.
- Working closely with colleagues while also being able to complete tasks independently.
- Refuelling and safely operating forklifts where appropriately trained and authorised.

- Physically fit and comfortable carrying out manual work throughout the day.
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Safety-conscious with a strong understanding of safe working practices.
- Reliable, hardworking, and willing to take ownership of tasks.
- Organised with good attention to detail and strong numeracy skills.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
- A good communicator who can follow instructions accurately.
Desirable Experience
- Forklift licence or previous forklift operating experience.
- Experience within a cooperage, warehouse, manufacturing, transport, or logistics environment.
- Experience handling stock, materials, or heavy goods.
