LMD Vacuum Excavation Group is seeking an experienced and organised Transport Manager to oversee our daily transport operations and ensure compliance with UK transport regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for fleet operations and maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency.
LMD Vacuum Excavation has a varied fleet of vacuum excavators and also has some of the brand new RIVARD ExVac units joining our fleet to work across the country on highways / utilities / construction sites.
Responsibilities:
Operator Licence (O-Licence) Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) regulations
- Maintain operator licence obligations and transport records
- Oversee driver hours, tachograph compliance, and Working Time Directive requirements
- Ensure vehicles are roadworthy and legally compliant at all times
- Prepare for DVSA inspections and audits
Fleet & Vehicle Management
- Manage HGV Vacuum Excavation fleet maintenance schedules
- Coordinate inspections, servicing, MOTs, LOLER inspections, and defect rectification
- Monitor vehicle defects and ensure prompt repairs
- Maintain records for: PMI inspections, Maintenance history, Fuel usage, Fleet performance, Insurance and compliance documents
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Ensure safe operation of Vacuum Excavation equipment and HGVs
- Implement RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements)
- Ensure compliance with: CDM Regulations, Health & Safety at Work Act, Highway and street works requirements
- Promote safe digging and utility avoidance procedures
- Investigate incidents, near misses, accidents and subsequent dealings with insurance, 3rd parties, and customers
- Toolbox talks, safety alerts and stand down day duties
- Maintaining accreditations via annual audit
Driver & Operator Management
- Supervise drivers and vacuum excavation operatives
- Conduct driver inductions and toolbox talks
- Monitor driver competency and training requirements
- Ensure CPC qualifications and licences remain valid
- Manage disciplinary or performance issues where necessary
Financial & Commercial Duties
- Monitor transport costs and fuel efficiency
- Assist with budgeting and fleet procurement
- Support invoicing and job costing processes
Environmental Responsibilities
- Ensure proper disposal of excavated waste materials
- Monitor environmental compliance and spill prevention
- Promote fuel efficiency and sustainability initiatives
- Compliance with environmental requirements – recycling, oil disposal, spill kits, WARDS
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Common Requirements
- Transport Manager CPC qualification
- Knowledge of DVSA and FORS compliance
- Experience managing HGV fleets
- Understanding of vacuum excavation/suction excavation operations
- Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation
- Leadership and planning skills
Useful Industry Certifications
- FORS Practitioner
- IOSH or NEBOSH
- Street Works (NRSWA)
- CSCS/SMSTS
- First Aid awareness
Pay: £30,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
