Head Barista
Potential Start Date: September 2026
Hourly Wage: £13.00 (£27,040 per anum).
Schedule: Full-time – 5 days per week - Saturday to Wednesday.
Location: Three Ridings Coffee, Leven, East Yorkshire, HU17 5NY.
We're looking for an experienced, passionate and skilled Head Barista to lead the next phase of our exciting coffee roastery project in Leven.
This is not an entry-level role. Previous specialty coffee experience is essential, and shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a practical assessment demonstrating their ability to:
- Dial in espresso to a consistently high standard.
- Steam milk with excellent texture and temperature control.
- Pour high-quality milk drinks with speed, precision and consistency.
- Work confidently under pressure while delivering exceptional customer service.
The Role
As our Head Barista, you will take ownership of our brand-new retail and takeaway coffee space, ensuring every customer receives an outstanding coffee experience. You'll be responsible for producing consistently excellent drinks, maintaining the highest operational standards, and creating a warm, welcoming environment where every customer leaves with a smile.
Working closely with the roasting team, you'll develop an in-depth understanding of every coffee we source and roast—from its origin and processing method to roast development, flavour profile and brewing recommendations. This knowledge will enable you to confidently advise customers, helping them choose the right coffee, brewing equipment and techniques to get the very best from every cup.
You'll also play an important role in supporting our marketing by creating engaging social media content from the coffee shop and roastery. Whether it's filming latte art, showcasing seasonal drinks, introducing new coffees or capturing behind-the-scenes moments, you'll help tell the story of Three Ridings Coffee and share our passion with a wider audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare espresso-based and filter coffee to an exceptional and consistent standard.
- Lead the day-to-day operation of the retail and takeaway coffee bar.
- Deliver outstanding customer service and create a memorable experience for every visitor.
- Work alongside the roasting team to continually develop your coffee knowledge and confidently advise customers.
- Recommend coffees, grinders, brewing equipment and home brewing techniques.
- Develop and introduce seasonal drinks and menus.
- Create engaging social media content for use across our marketing channels.
- Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness, organisation and presentation.
- Ensure all food safety, health, hygiene and HACCP procedures are followed at all times.
- Manage daily stock levels, ordering and replenishment for the coffee bar.
- Support the roasting team with cuppings, tastings and customer events when required.
- Assist the wider roasting and production team when needed, demonstrating a flexible, team-first attitude.
More Than a Barista Role
This is far more than a typical café barista position. We're looking for someone who wants to immerse themselves in the world of specialty coffee, learn directly from a working roastery, and play a key role in creating a destination that inspires people to enjoy better coffee.
You'll gain hands-on experience beyond the espresso machine, developing your knowledge of green coffee, roasting, cupping, sensory evaluation and brewing. You'll work alongside experienced coffee professionals and become a trusted source of advice for customers looking to explore the world of specialty coffee.
If you're someone who loves continually learning, enjoys sharing your passion with others and wants to grow as part of an ambitious independent coffee business, you'll feel right at home.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a barista in a quality-focused coffee environment (essential).
- Excellent espresso preparation and milk texturing skills.
- A strong understanding of specialty coffee, origins, processing methods and brewing.
- A genuine passion for coffee and a desire to continually develop your knowledge.
- Confidence in creating engaging content for Instagram and other social media platforms.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and pride in consistency.
- A proactive, organised and flexible approach to work.
- A willingness to support the wider team wherever required.
- A desire to grow with an ambitious and expanding independent coffee roastery.
Why Join Three Ridings Coffee?
This is a rare opportunity to help shape one of East Yorkshire's most exciting coffee destinations. As we move into the next phase of our Leven roastery project, you'll have the opportunity to help build something special from the ground up.
You'll work as part of a close-knit team that's passionate about exceptional coffee, continual learning and delivering an outstanding customer experience. As the business grows, so will the opportunities. Whether your ambitions lie in coffee education, roasting, product development, events or leadership, we'll encourage and support your development every step of the way.
If coffee isn't just your job but your passion, we'd love to hear from you.
