Job Summary
The School has around 80 Academic staff, alongside research fellows and professional services support with a student population of approximately 1900 In Edgbaston and 1200 in Guangzhou. The School is making a leading contribution to the University's 2030 strategy, with a strong international reputation, buoyant research grant capture and growing domestic and international student population. Main Responsibilities
Statistics and Data science are strategically important areas for the School in terms of student interest, interdisciplinary research collaborations and opportunities for external engagement and impact. We are looking to appoint a Professor of Statistics to further strengthen this area of national and international importance, build critical mass and research income, strengthen the group’s national and international profile, and develop interdisciplinary opportunities across the University .
The post holder would be expected to:
- Deliver significant strategic and intellectual leadership for the School, both in Statistics and Data Science and more broadly;
- Contribute to the development and delivery of exciting and attractive degree programmes;
- Enhance the research environment through their own outstanding research and by helping others develop their portfolios;
- Develop interdisciplinary research opportunities across the University;
- Secure external funding;
- Interact with external bodies such as the Royal Statistical Society and, where appropriate, industrial partners.
Person Specification
The postholder will have:
- An outstanding and sustained profile of international quality outputs, funding record and successful PhD supervisions;
- Proven ability to develop and lead innovative research-led teaching and curriculum design;
- Evidence of leadership outside of research area and mentoring earlier career colleagues;
- Ability to translate research into impact on other scholars and on the wider community through publication, engagement with policy and practice, consultancy and advisory work;
Evidence of commitment to citizenship and working with others for the greater good of the academic discipline and institution.
