At Carnell, we're passionate about raising the threshold of excellence in highway maintenance. Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we're looking for an ambitious and commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to join our growing Commercial Team.
As a Quantity Surveyor, you'll play a key role in managing the commercial and financial performance of a variety of civil engineering and highways projects. You'll work closely with operational teams, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and to the highest standards.
The Role
Reporting to the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of projects from inception through to final account. You'll identify opportunities to maximise value, minimise risk, and support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage project cost reporting through monthly Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) processes.
- Price, assess, and submit quotations and compensation events.
- Manage final accounts and ensure accurate and timely billing.
- Administer subcontractor accounts, including orders, applications for payment, and payment processing.
- Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
- Provide advice on contractual matters, project variations, and cost overruns.
- Build strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Attend project meetings and support effective project delivery.
About You
We're looking for a proactive and detail-focused professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and takes ownership of their work.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification and experience.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying or similar commercial role.
- Experience working with NEC3/NEC4 contracts and frameworks.
- Experience commercially managing civil engineering projects, ideally within highways or drainage environments.
- Strong understanding of NEC Option C contracts.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
