Logistics Planner – Concrete Block Deliveries

Role Purpose
The Logistics Planner is responsible for the efficient planning, coordination, and administration of concrete block deliveries to customers and sites. The role will ensure deliveries are scheduled effectively, the S Morris fleet is prioritised and utilised efficiently, customer requirements are met, and delivery information is accurately recorded and reported.
Working closely with Sales, Production, drivers, transport providers, customers, and site contacts, the Logistics Planner will support a reliable, cost-effective delivery service and provide accurate management information to assist commercial and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery Planning & Scheduling
- Plan daily and weekly concrete block deliveries based on customer requirements, delivery dates, site restrictions, stock availability, vehicle capacity, and location.
- Prioritise the S Morris fleet wherever practical before using third-party hauliers.
- Allocate deliveries to company vehicles and external transport providers where required.
- Coordinate delivery requirements with Production and Sales to ensure orders can be fulfilled.
- Monitor schedules throughout the day and respond promptly to delays, cancellations, breakdowns, traffic, and site issues.
- Confirm delivery slots and communicate changes clearly to customers and internal teams.
- Identify opportunities to consolidate deliveries, improve vehicle utilisation, and reduce unnecessary mileage and transport costs.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date delivery schedule.
Customer & Internal Coordination
- Act as a key contact for customers regarding delivery dates, times, site requirements, and delivery queries.
- Liaise with Sales to ensure customer commitments are achievable and clearly communicated.
- Work closely with Production, drivers, and transport providers to ensure deliveries run smoothly.
- Confirm sites are suitable for delivery, including access, unloading requirements, and restrictions.
- Communicate delays, changes, or potential service failures promptly.
- Escalate significant operational or customer issues to the Commercial/Sales Manager.
Administration
- Maintain accurate delivery schedules, transport bookings, customer information, and delivery documentation.
- Ensure delivery information is correctly recorded on relevant ERP, CRM, transport systems, or spreadsheets.
- Maintain records of completed, outstanding, cancelled, delayed, and failed deliveries.
- Assist with resolving delivery discrepancies, including shortages, damages, failed deliveries, and incorrect deliveries.
- Maintain customer delivery instructions and site-specific requirements.
- Assist with checking transport invoices, rates, and discrepancies.
- Ensure all administration is completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
Reporting & Management Information
- Produce regular logistics and delivery reports for the Commercial/Sales Manager.
- Provide daily and weekly information covering delivery volumes, outstanding orders, delays, cancellations, and failed deliveries.
- Monitor key performance indicators, including:
- On-time delivery performance
- Deliveries completed and failed
- S Morris fleet utilisation
- Average loads/drops per vehicle
- Third-party haulage usage and cost
- Transport cost per delivery/load
- Customer delivery complaints
- Analyse information to identify trends, inefficiencies, recurring issues, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Prepare ad-hoc reports and analysis as required by the Commercial/Sales Manager.
- Ensure all reports are accurate, timely, and clearly presented.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience in logistics, transport planning, delivery coordination, scheduling, or a similar role.
- Strong administration, organisation, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and changing requirements.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to analyse data and produce clear reports.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Desirable
- Experience in construction materials, concrete, aggregates, building products, or manufacturing.
- Experience planning multi-drop deliveries.
- Experience with rigid, crane/offload, or specialist delivery vehicles.
- Experience managing external hauliers or transport subcontractors.
- Experience using ERP, CRM, or transport management systems.
- Knowledge of transport legislation and delivery requirements.

Pay: £32,000.00 per year
