Job Overview
As a Food Tour Guide, you will accompany groups from a meeting point to a selection of carefully chosen restaurants in central Edinburgh. Your role is to deliver a fun, well-organised, and engaging experience, combining food, history, and local culture.
This is not a long walking tour around the city, but a food-focused experience with selected stops.
Key Responsibilities
- Accompany guests to the restaurants included in the tour.
- Deliver engaging and informative commentary about local food, history, and culture.
- Follow the script provided by the company while adding your personal style and energy.
- Interact with guests in a friendly and professional manner.
- Ensure the smooth running, timing, and organisation of the tour.
- Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the experience.
Requirements
- Excellent or native-level English is required.
- Spanish is highly valued, but not essential.
- Candidates who speak both English and Spanish are especially encouraged to apply.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom (mandatory).
- Must be able to work on a self-employed / freelance basis.
- Based in Edinburgh or within easy reach of the city centre.
- No previous experience is required.
- Experience in customer service, tourism, hospitality, or events is a plus.
- Strong communication and public speaking skills.
- Ability to follow a structured script.
- Proactive, reliable, and well-organised.
- Outgoing personality with a passion for food and storytelling.
Availability
We are looking for guides available to start from 20 July 2026.
A strong commitment and broad availability throughout August and September is essential, as these are key months for our tours.
The main tour times are:
After September, availability requirements become more flexible. However, December is also an important peak season, so additional availability during that month is highly appreciated.
Please only apply if you are available for most of August and September, as availability during this period is a key requirement for the role.
Conditions
- Freelance / Self-employed position.
- Location: On-site, Edinburgh (city centre area).
- Payment per tour delivered.
- Opportunity to receive additional tips from guests.
- Scripts and tour structure are provided by the company.
- This role does not guarantee a fixed number of hours and is intended as a source of supplementary income.
