We are looking for a part-time Spanish Language Assistant to join our team, supporting the language teachers and students by providing one to one and/or small group Spanish speaking practice.
Liaising with the Spanish department to support A-level students, your role will be to improve student confidence in communicating in Spanish in an interactive manner by being aware of current matters in Spain and in Latinoamerica, and discussing contemporary aspects of youth culture such as in the current topics on the A-Level syllabus by AQA.

Responsibilities include:
- To work collaboratively with the Head of Department and other Spanish teachers as part of a team to ensure the wellbeing and the personal and academic development of the students.
- To have enthusiasm for working with young people and ability to form good working relationships with students. To be skilled at developing children’s self-esteem and motivation so that they become resilient, independent learners.
- To possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and being fluent in English and Spanish. To be aware of the education system.
- To undertake any other duties which are reasonably comparable to a post of this grade in consultation with the Head of Spanish.
- Flexible approach to work having willingness to flex hours to suit timetabling and students’ needs.
- To promote an enjoyable experience of learning of the target language. To motivate and encourage students to participate fully in their learning.
- To plan and prioritise tasks and workload.
- To regularly create, collate and prepare teaching materials for the speaking lessons such as printed articles, reviews, a variety of documents for A-Level and GCSE etc. to supplement classwork and to support lesson discussion in Spanish.
- To use these materials in lessons to support the learning process and to develop information, critical thinking and fluency.
- To ensure that topic-based conversation lessons are well prepared, interactive and worthwhile.
- Support the Department to contribute to pupils reaching their potential and accessing the curriculum.
- Prepare pupils for their A-Level (AQA) Speaking exams.
- To monitor and maintain accurate records of the progress of students.
- To give high-quality feedback to class teachers on individual’s progress and performance and to students about their progress to enable them to achieve high grades.
- To attend any departmental/College meetings if required.
- To have knowledge of recent developments in curriculum area and being available for further professional development and training.
- Promote cultural awareness and understanding of Spain and Latinoamerica.
Working Hours: 6 hours per week for 25 weeks per year during term time
Salary for part-time hours : £4,102.46 per annum (paid over 12 months in equal instalments)
