We're looking for a reliable and hands-on Fleet Maintenance Operative to ensure the daily roadworthiness and operational readiness of our mixed commercial vehicle fleet. This is a key role supporting our logistics team, requiring attention to detail, initiative, a practical mindset, and a good understanding of commercial vehicle maintenance.
Job Summary
You'll be responsible for inspecting and preparing vehicles for dispatch, including 3.5T Luton and low-loader vans and 7.5T lorries.
Your duties will include:
- Checking and topping up fluids (oil, coolant, screenwash, AdBlue and diesel)
- Inspecting lights, tyres and bodywork for damage or wear
- Recording mileage and maintenance information on vehicle check sheets
- Replacing minor parts such as bulbs and mirrors
- Swapping wheels when tyres are worn or damaged
- Identifying and reporting vehicle defects promptly
- Flagging VOR (Vehicle Off Road) vehicles and replacing them with suitable alternatives
- Monitoring stock levels of consumables and advising management before supplies run low
- Driving and repositioning vehicles around the site
- Printing and managing vehicle documentation
- Communicating vehicle issues with managers via group chat
- Assisting with loading or warehouse duties when required
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- A good understanding of vehicle maintenance and the daily checks required to keep commercial vehicles roadworthy.
- Previous experience working with commercial vehicles (3.5T and/or 7.5T desirable).
- The ability to identify minor defects and carry out basic repairs such as replacing bulbs, mirrors and wheels.
- Good attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills.
- A proactive approach and the ability to work independently.
- A full UK driving licence (7.5T entitlement would be advantageous but is not essential).
- A strong work ethic and willingness to support warehouse operations when required.
This role is ideal for someone with a practical mindset who enjoys working around vehicles and taking ownership of fleet readiness. You'll be the first line of defence against delays and breakdowns, helping to keep our operations running smoothly while ensuring our vehicles remain safe, compliant and ready for the road.
