Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Chef/Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about food preparation and possess a strong understanding of kitchen operations. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing delicious dishes, maintaining food safety standards, and contributing to a positive dining experience for our residents.
Duties
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to recipes and quality standards
- Assist in portion control to minimise waste
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area in compliance with food safety regulations
- Ensure all food is stored correctly and rotation practices are followed
- Support the team during busy service times, including serving meals when required
- Monitor food temperatures and quality throughout preparation and service
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations and timely deliver
Experience
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking within a professional kitchen environment
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Previous restaurant or catering experience is highly desirable
- Familiarity with various cooking techniques and meal preparation methods
- Experience in serving or front-of-house duties is advantageous but not essential
There maybe scope to increase the hours worked in the future e.g. covering staff holidays etc, including those of our kitchen assistants. The kitchen assistant also helps with the cleaning of the communal areas of our buildings. The hourly rate of a kitchen assistant is currently £13.
Training will be provided as and when required.
DBS check required before starting work (essential).
West Cornwall Housing Association provides sheltered and independent housing for the elderly. We have two properties in Penzance and cook our residents a mid-day meal six days a week.
Pay: £14.30 per hour
