Join Our Team as a Quantity Surveyor
About RHI Construction Ltd
RHI Construction Ltd has built a legacy of excellence over the past 50 years, with our head office in Longtown, Carlisle. From our origins as specialists in civils and groundworks, we’ve evolved into a leading construction contractor operating across Northern England and Southern Scotland. Our diverse portfolio spans both civil and construction, including multi-million-pound housing developments, refurbishment projects, new builds, steel frame construction, retail, schools, motorway works, car parks, water industry works, design and build projects, and more. Our focus remains on steady growth by delivering quality, working safely, and consistently adding value.
The Role
We are seeking a proactive, experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our project delivery team. In this position, you will work closely with Contracts Managers, Engineers, and the site team to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. Your expertise in cost management and contract administration will play a key role in shaping construction strategies and ensuring seamless communication across departments.
A Day in the Life
Your day will be a dynamic blend of desk-based commercial analysis and practical on-site engagement. You’ll prepare detailed valuations, monitor budgets, and analyse financial data to keep projects on track. Collaboration is a central part of the role, and you’ll work alongside procurement and engineering teams to integrate accurate commercial insights at every stage. You’ll also manage contract administration, evaluate and appoint subcontractors, and identify and price contract variations and costs, ensuring all activity complies with legal, safety, and quality standards. Timely reporting and proactive issue resolution with all parties involved will be essential in maintaining momentum on each project.
Measuring Success
Success in this role means consistently delivering precise financial guidance that optimises project performance and profit margins, reinforces client trust through consistently high standards, and supports the smooth integration of our commercial, operational, and technical strategies.
Working Hours & Remuneration
This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. You’ll receive a competitive salary ranging from £50,000 to £70,000 with a company car. You will automatically enrol in our company pension scheme and receive 33 days holiday including bank holidays. There is also a bonus scheme linked to company performance.
Our Company Culture
We’re proud to have an exceptional staff retention rate of 93%. Over a third of our workforce has been with the business for five years or more, with many team members reaching significant milestones such as 10, 15, 20, and even 25 years of continuous service.
