Role Purpose:
This role provides leadership and management to an agile development team, with overall accountability for delivering high-quality, scalable solutions that support the organisation’s product strategy and long-term objectives. Sitting at the heart of the R & D function, the role plays a key part in aligning technical delivery with business priorities, ensuring teams are focused on delivering value in a structured, efficient and sustainable way.

Role Requirements and Responsibilities:
· Responsible for the design and development of new products and the ongoing maintenance of existing product lines.
· Collaborating with Technical Architects to guide your team in developing new products aligned to agreed requirements and design standards, ensuring high quality, performance, and reliability.
· Working closely with Product Management, Software Architects and Product Owners (within the R&D team) to translate complex and often disparate requirements into well-defined Features and Product Backlog Items for multiple agile development teams.
· Ensuring team backlogs are transparent, clearly defined, and effectively prioritised to maximise team productivity and value delivery.
· Leading the estimation of development work and the creation and management of delivery plans, ensuring commitments are met and delivery remains on track.
· Providing clear and transparent reporting on progress against agreed delivery plans.
· Managing the agile development process, including facilitating daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews and retrospectives, to support the on-time delivery of development programmes.
· Leading, supporting, and developing team members by setting a strong personal example, demonstrating commitment, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
· Taking responsibility for performance management and career development of software and firmware developers and testers, providing regular feedback and development opportunities.
· Demonstrating strong domain knowledge and actively sharing expertise across the team(s) to support continuous learning and improvement.
Skills and Experience
· Broad and in-depth knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and associated tools, technologies, and best practices.
· Proven experience leading, managing, and motivating software engineering teams, particularly within an Agile environment.
· Experience with direct line management of medium-sized teams, including appraisals, performance management, coaching, and supporting team and individual development.
· Demonstrated ability to build and sustain inclusive, high-performing teams, supported by strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
· Excellent problem-solving and risk management capabilities, with the ability to make sound decisions in complex environments.
· Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence individuals at all levels of the organisation.
· Excellent written, verbal, and active listening skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
· Highly organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage priorities and deliver across multiple teams.
· It would also be beneficial to have Experience with Azure DevOps or similar tools supporting Agile delivery and lifecycle management, familiarity with product management and roadmap tools such as Aha! and an awareness of embedded software development practices and associated tools and frameworks.
